Miles on failed fake field goal: ‘I should have kept that one in my hat’

Yes, Les Miles is known as the Mad Hatter, and Miles finally pulled a trick out from underneath that white baseball hat during tonight’s game against top-ranked Alabama.

It just didn’t work; in fact it failed miserably.

Down 7-3 in the second quarter and on a 4th-and-12 from the Alabama 27, Miles decided to fake the field goal. Holder Brad Wing kept the snap and completed a pass to kicker Drew Alleman... for a loss of two yards and a turnover on downs. Alabama was already in a safe formation and tackled Alleman immediately.

Heading into the locker room down 14-3 at the half, Miles told CBS reporter Tracy WolfsonI should have kept that one in my hat.”

Miles also sent Alleman out for a 54-yard field goal, which he missed. The Tigers have been able to move the ball well in spurts, but haven’t been able to do anything with it once inside Alabama territory.

The Tide get the ball to start the second half. While it’d be foolish to count LSU out of anything, Alabama looks like a complete football team. LSU does not.
