Many people in America think Oregon is a better team than Alabama. I’m sure there are others that think K State is better, or the Fighting Irish, or even Louisville.

Its time that sports writers and coaches had the courage of their convictions and voted their consciences instead of lockstepping with everyone else. I keep hearing this nonsense about Alabama as “defending national champions.” Sorry, but the national champions graduated last year. Its time that the voters looked at THIS year’s teams, and voted based on who they believe is best NOW!

It would be shameful if a superior team were left out of the national champion picture because of some insupportable deference to the SEC. Alabama has done nothing to prove they are any better than several quality teams. If writers and coaches think their are better teams, they must vote them #1.

This is my absolute favorite comment that I’ve ever seen here at CFT. I’ve seen some good ones, but this one takes the cake. Way to start watching college football this week.

This one is my second favorite. I don’t know what the “SEC BS system” is, but it’s pretty impressive that they’ve cooked up a computer program gives extra points for being Notre Dame. Ten years later, they finally used that piece of code that gave Notre Dame a one spot bump in the BCS standings. Now, they didn’t use it to get Notre Dame to the first or second spot, only to the third spot. After all, you can’t be TOO obvious about using your top secret Notre Dame code in your program.

I’d really like to meet some of the people that actually type this stuff up on their computer and think, “yeah, this is what’s up. I’m really telling them the way it is.”

Kansas St will have a hard time with tcu.

On the other hand, I see the computer rankings are just as mind-bogglingly idiotic as usual.

I certainly don’t see Alabama losing, and I highly doubt anyone in the Pac 12 can outscore Oregon. Notre Dame’s path is clear if they can get the road win at USC. Kansas State’s got enough talent to run the table with or without Klein, but their job is easier if he’s able to go.

I guess in the end I’m rooting for an Alabama-Oregon matchup. Oregon’s video game offense against college football’s best defense. Almost a shame they wouldn’t play the game within a week or two of the conference championship games. Giving Saban approximately a month to prepare for Oregon’s “O” definitely gives ‘Bama an edge.

According to the actual conference strengths based on every BCS computer (three sources below), your post should be directed toward the ACC.

If Kansas State and Oregon win out, Oregon really needs ND to lose. Oregon has to make up ground in the computers and ND is ahead of them. Just like in the human polls, if a team ahead of you loses, you’ll automatically move up. So that’d really help Oregon’s cause if ND was no longer in their way.

The way things stand now, Oregon’s upcoming schedule does not give them any big advantage over Kansas State. If you look at the BSC averages for each team’s next 3 opponents, Kansas State’s opponents average out better. And Oregon’s average will actually get dragged down by the Pac 12 title game. Worse yet, it’s possible a one-loss team like LSU could end up passing Oregon in some computers. So they need help.

What would really help Oregon would be if they became a mostly unanimous #2 in the Coaches poll. But I’m not sure that happens unless Kansas State barely scrapes past a bad team like ND did against Pitt. If that happens, Oregon will still have ground they have to make up in the computers, but it won’t be as much.

A Notre Dame loss and getting most of the #2 votes in the Coaches poll might be enough to push Oregon past Kansas State in the end.

But as it stands today, the most likely “win and they’re in” out of the 3 is Kansas State. And obviously their chances hinge on how healthy Colin Klein is.

Stop w/ the conspiracy theory. If the Ducks win out they’ll play Alabama in the NC game. This isn’t. 1946, 1966 or 1977…there’s just as much, probably more, hate for ND as love. The only reason the media hypes them is that it gets fans like u in a pissing contest w/ ND fans. Don’t fall for it, your Ducks will be fine IF they win out. ESPNs dream matchup was USC vs Bama but since SC choked, they are hyping the Ducks…not that it’s not deserved but u can tell when EVERY talking head spews the same line about Oregon’s D: “this is he best D that Nick Aliotti (sp?) has had since he’s been DC”. As if saying over & over will make it so. Maybe it is a great D…I hope it is if u plan on competing w/ Bama. It wasn’t impressive against USC.
