Poll: the No. 1 team in the country is...

And then there were six. Still. Barely.

The “Upset Saturday” theme of weeks gone by gave way to “Survival Saturday,” with a pair of remaining unbeatens barely remaining that way.

As you may have heard by now, No. 1 Alabama needed a two-minute drive for the ages in the din of Death Valley to continue its BcS title game trajectory, while No. 4 Notre Dame was taken to two overtimes by unranked Pitt at home in South Bend in keeping its 2012 won-loss mark unblemished.

Meanwhile, the other four unbeatens -- No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 Kansas State, No. 6 Ohio State and No. 12 Louisville -- won their respective games by a combined 83 points, although the Ducks’ 11-point win over USC was its closest of the season; in Week 2, Oregon outlasted Fresno State by 17, which is a decidedly deceptive number as the Ducks led 35-6 at the half before taking their foot off the Bulldogs’ throats the last two quarters.

Regardless of how we got here, though, we’re exactly where we were before the first foot met football Saturday afternoon: six teams with perfect records, five of whom are eligible for the postseason.

So, as we do each and every week, it’s time for us to ask: who ya got? Who should be the No. 1 team in the country when the new polls are released very early Sunday afternoon?
