Getty ImagesThe Heisman campaign is officially underway for USC wide receiver Marqise Lee. So, too, is Lee’s apparent campaign to play on both sides of the ball, however partially deflated it may be.
Looks like Lee will have a chance to become an impact player on both sides of the ball, after all. Lane Kiffin said on Thursday that Lee could see playing time on defense as early as this Saturday against Arizona State.
“We’ve looked at some different situations of putting him over there to help us out,” Kiffin said. What kind of “situations”? TBD, but Lee was a highly-touted safety coming out of high school. If nothing else, the Trojans defense could use a spark after giving up over 1,300 yards and 101 points over the past two weeks.
Not to mention Lee as a two-way player could help his Heisman chances. Lee has 877 all-purpose yards over the last two weeks and just over 2,000 all-purpose yards for the season. His 1,286 reception yards are second-best in the country. While Kiffin has been hesitant before to put more stress on arguably his best playmaker, the combination of need and Lee’s ability has altered Kiffin’s thinking.
Depending on how the move goes, it could alter the Heisman race as well.

A few things:
If that’s not desperation, I don’t know what is.
If Marqise can do this (originally was recruited as a Safety), then there’s no question he deserves an invite to NY.
Instead of putting your best O player on D, why not just fire Monte? Much easier.
Nice attempt to divert attention from the deflated ball issue, the latest controversy Lane has brought our way.
Lane Kiffin sucks.
Lee is a beast. He’s to valuable to be injured tackling tho. Lane Kiffin is going to risk his future just to save his own job as head coach. This is a stupid move. The only reason he’s having to do this is cuz TJ McDonald is one of the most overrated players in the country. Lol at experts calling him a first rounder. And yes I am a usc fan.
Stupid move, hope it does not back fire. Instead of worring about an indivdual awards for your best players, why don’t you worry about getting your underacheiving defense to step up and play as a unit.
Firing Monte right now would be another sign of desperation at this point. You live and die with what you got. Suck it up Trojans and start playing together and quit worring about how you bitchen you look like on the field.
Don’t mean to DEFLATE your mood fellas (see what I did there?) but why is usc desperately trying to win another Heisman that will just be taken away again? lol
Go Irish.
