Back injury to sideline Purdue coordinator

Well, this is something you don’t see every day.

In a press release, Purdue announced that offensive coordinator Gary Nord will not coach in this weekend’s game against Iowa. The school stated that Nord has been hospitalized since Wednesday after injuring his back.

Nord’s game-day responsibilities, including play-calling, will be divvied up between head coach Danny Hope and wide receivers coach Patrick Higgins.

Nord is in his fourth season as the Boilermakers’ coordinator and quarterbacks coach. This season, Purdue is 81st in total offense and 63rd in scoring offense.

At 3-6 on the season and 19-27 in three-plus seasons, Nord’s boss has come under increasing fire for the Boilermakers’ record and could find himself on the coaching unemployment line at season’s end.
