Good news: VT DB released from hospital after scary hit

Lost in last night’s coverage of the dramatic, last-minute win by Florida State over Virginia Tech was the neck injury to Hokies safety Michael Cole.

Cole, a redshirt freshman, suffered the injury in the third quarter during a tackle. He lied on the ground for several minutes before being taken from the field in an ambulance. While the process of taking Cole from the playing field was scary, it appears, thankfully, to have been mostly precautionary. Tech head athletic trainer Mike Goforth said Thursday night Cole suffered a neck sprain – confirming ESPN’s sideline report during the game — and was released from the hospital.

“Michael Cole suffered a cervical neck sprain this evening against Florida State. He was conscious on the field, able to move all extremities, but had neck pain and numbness in the upper extremities. He was stabilized on the spine board, and transferred to LewisGale Montgomery Hospital for further testing. His CT scan is negative for any fracture, and he will be discharged home [Thursday night].”

The situation looked bad at the time. Thankfully, Cole’s going to be alright.

Cole has 43 tackles and two interceptions on the season.

    Fantastic news.

That really didn’t look good when watching the replays on Thursday night.

Get well and Godspeed young Mr. Cole.
