No charges for Vols’ Bonner in cellphone theft

A week ago, the University of Tennessee Police Department listed defensive back Deion Bonner as the lone suspect in the theft of a UT student’s cellphone.

Now? Nothing to see here, move on.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, no charges will be filed in the case against Bonner or anyone else for that matter. The News Sentinel wrote that “the alleged victim in the case does not wish to pursue charges.”

The 21-year-old female’s phone was reported stolen by the alleged victim from the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building on the UT campus late Wednesday afternoon of last week.

Why the woman who originally reported the phone as being decided not to pursue charges was not made clear.

In April of last year, Bonner was one of three high school students — two of them football recruits — charged with stealing iPhones and iPods from the University of Georgia football locker room during an open-house event. Bonner, a four-star member of the Vols’ 2012 recruiting class, eventually pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in the UGA incident, which involved the theft of nearly $1,900 worth of iGadgets.

The true freshman has played in six games this season.
