An off-field incident (reportedly) has left the future of a pair of BYU football players very much up in the air, the Provo Daily Herald is reporting.
What is known: BYU announced Thursday night that safety Joe Sampson and linebacker Zac Stout had been indefinitely suspended from the football program.
What isn’t known is the why. While the school gave the standard “unspecified violations of team rules,” the Herald makes mention of an incident that took place on or around Halloween.
Lieutenant Matt Siufanua of the Provo Police Department confirmed Thursday night that there were BYU players involved in an altercation and that they were in the process of making contact with the witnesses and all parties involved.
While neither suspended player was specifically mentioned as being involved in the incident, BYU also confirmed that both are no longer enrolled in school and won’t be back this season.
Sampson had started eight of nine games this season for the Cougars.
