Tuberville takes a slap at one of his assistants

Texas Tech Texas Football AP

No, seriously, he did.  Literally.

In the third quarter of Texas Tech’s game with Kansas, the Red Raiders were assessed a penalty for having 12 men on the field.  Of course, Tommy Tuberville did what any sane, rational, even-keeled adult would do in such an unfortunate situation — he slapped the headphones and baseball cap off the head of one of his assistants.

You can judge for yourself Tuberville’s intent before the post-game spin sets into high gear by clicking HERE.

Tuberville is in his third year after replacing Mike Leach, who was fired after allegedly mistreating the son of former ESPN college football analyst and failed politician Craig James.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Tech officials deem Tuberville’s sideline tantrum to be acceptable behavior.

There is no good reason for 12 men on the field. The assistant deserved it. It’s obviously whose fault it was for the penalty.

He never has the right to put his hands on an assistant like that. I’ve always liked Tubberville but the assistant would have been completley in the right to push him right back. Yell at him for screwing up, no problem. Hands off though.

Actually, brewcrew, it looks to me he just hits the headphones, so he never actually put his hands on the assistant. Not saying it’s appropriate, but he didn’t punch him in the face or anything. And if you’re dead set against him touching the assistant, why would it be okay for the assistant to push him back?

Mogo, its ok to push him back if he touched him first. Its called defending himself, not that Tommy was intending to hurt him but it should be an easy reaction to understand. Either way Tommy wasn’t in the right and it B.S.

Short of physically attacking me, my family or my dog (one in the same I guess), I learned long ago that it’s never acceptable to hit someone else… and having 12 men on the field most certainly does not justify Tuberville’s actions. That was, quite possibly, a career killer. Stupid move Tommy…

He was trying to slap the bill of his cap?

The headphones were on the asst coach’s head-therefore they are “part” of him. tuberville slapped an assistant coach and that is totally unacceptable. he should be fined for his poor judgement or suspended or both

Read elsewhere that Tuberville said the assistant, actually a graduate assistant, was on the field and he was trying to pull him off the field. That he went to grab the GA’s shirt and grapped his mic instead.

Yeah right. No way that looks even close to Tuberville pulling the GA off the field and not smacking him across the face.

Its bad enough Tuberville did it, but lying on top of it is unacceptable. Just tell the truth. Always better than spitting out a blatant lie.

And there goes Tuberville’s chance at the Auburn job, if he ever was a candidate.

That coach should have defended himself by beating his azz. If you want to get physical that is what happens. Don’t touch people and you have nothing to worry about.

That is a open hand pimp slap.

I looked to me like he just snatched the headset and the hat came with it. Much ado…

Hmm, while I do not want to make mountains out of molehills here, come on Tommy-just admit it, take your licks, and move on. Considering the reaction TT took to Mike Leach locking someone in an equipment cabinet Tuberville ‘should” consider himself lucky if he still has a job but in all honesty this will all blow over by next week.
