A short time ago the Associated Press tapped Oregon as its new No. 1 team. With the release of the coaches’ poll, it’s now unanimous.
As was the case in the AP poll, Oregon claimed the top spot in the USA Today coaches’ poll, receiving 44 of the 59 first-place votes. No. 2 Kansas State and No. 3 Notre Dame received 14 and one of the remaining first-place votes, respectively. Those three teams each moved up one spot from a week ago, as did Georgia (No. 4).
Alabama’s loss, which cost it three spots in the AP poll, cost it four in the coaches’ poll. The No. 5 ranking is the Tide’s lowest in the coaches’ poll since the final poll of the 2010 season.
Florida (No. 6) and Florida State (No. 7) held serve from a week ago, while two-loss LSU (No. 8) and one-loss Clemson (No. 9) flipped positions despite both winning by 20-plus points.
Texas A&M rounds out the Top 10 at No. 10.
Louisville (from No. 10 to No. 18) and Oregon State (from No. 12 to No. 17) were the only teams to take a bigger tumble than the Tide. With the exception of UCLA (up three to No. 16 from a week ago), no other team in the poll moved up or down more than two spots from the last release.
Michigan (No. 23), Texas Tech (No. 24) and Oklahoma State (No. 25) all reentered the rankings, replacing Northwestern (No. 21), Mississippi State (No. 23) and Toledo (No. 25).
