Driskel doubtful for Gators’ next game

As Florida continues the cream-puff section of its late season schedule, Florida could find itself without its starting quarterback this weekend.

Jeff Driskel suffered a sprained ankle in the third quarter of the Gators’ closer-than-expected win over Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday and did not return.

With a non-conference game against FCS-level Jacksonville State on the horizon, head coach Will Muschamp said his starter is doubtful for Saturday. With Florida State coming up a week later in the regular-season finale, it would make sense for UF to err on the side of caution when it comes to Driskel’s availability this weekend.

A decision on Driskel could be made by the middle of the week.

“We’ll try to get him out on the field on Wednesday,” Muschamp said in quotes distributed by the team. :If he can’t go by then, certainly we’ll go with Jacoby.”

Jacoby Brissett (pictured, left) would get the start if Driskel is unable to go. The true sophomore, who lost the QB competition to Driskel in summer camp and has been rumored to be considering a transfer after the 2012 season, completed 6-of-8 passes for 64 yards and a touchdown after replacing the injured Driskel.
