Surgery will end season early for Terps leading rusher

Naturally.

Maryland running back Wes Brown missed last weekend’s game against Clemson because of an ankle injury. As it turns out, though, the Terps’ leading rusher will miss what’s left in this 2012 regular season because of necessary shoulder surgery. According to Maryland coach Randy Edsall, Brown has been playing with an injured labrum since a game against Wake Forest. When Brown struggled with his ankle injury this week in practice, the decision was made to go through with the shoulder surgery.

While Brown’s surgery sticks to Maryland’s injury-filled narrative, it was also anticipated and shutting him down early is simply getting a head start on the inevitable. He’ll be out about 20 weeks and will miss spring practice, per Edsall.

Still, what an awful year for Maryland football in terms of injuries -- yet somehow the Terps can still technically go bowling this year if they beat Florida State and North Carolina.

Brown’s 382 yards rushing is the team’s best.
