Indefinitely suspended by BYU last week, reportedly for an off-field incident, a pair of former BYU football players have been charged in that incident.
According to multiple media outlets, Joe Sampson (pictured) and Zac Stout were among four individuals charged Thursday with misdemeanor assault. The charges stem from a brawl Halloween night at a Provo restaurant.
The Provo Daily Herald writes that “the charges were filed against the individuals felt to be the instigators of the altercation,” which occurred at around 3 a.m. local time.
Surveillance video of the fight, seen below, surfaced over the weekend:
After their suspensions, both players not only left the football program but the school as well. Head coach Bronco Mendenhall has not completely closed the door on a return next season for one or both of the players.
“[I] am anxious to now to help the young men grow and progress, but also for them to have restitution for what they have done, and learn from it,” the Cougars coach said.
