Utah State knocks LaTech out of the BCS at-large hunt

Will Davis, D.J. Banks AP

Just as we bury the WAC thanks to conference realignment (which, unfortunately, isn’t dead yet), we will now bury Louisiana Tech’s BCS bowl hopes along with it.

That would be courtesy of Utah State. Despite the fact that the Aggies have been royally awful at closing out potential upsets, USU managed to knock the No. 19 Bulldogs out of a BCS at-large spot with a 48-41 overtime win.

The Bulldogs failed to convert on a fourth-down and Utah State will bring home the final WAC championship — or, at least a share of it. The Aggies still have to play at Idaho next week.

At No. 20 in the BCS, Louisiana Tech needed to finish in the top 16 and ahead of the champion of a BCS conference to receive a bid to a BCS bowl. Those dreams are now long gone and the non-automatic qualifier group will not be represented in the BCS this year.

If was fun, Louisiana Tech. It really was. We still have the memories, though…

We played a good game, but waited way to long to show some effort. If our defense would have played for 4 quarters it would have been a different story. Although, Utah State does have a pretty good team so at least we didn’t lose to a low tier school. The worst thing about it is for the first time all year Colby Cameron threw an interception. Well at least we got next week and then a bowl game which will probably be against inter-state rival UL-Monroe in the New Orleans Bowl.

So, does that mean that Utah State just cost its conference about $20,000,000 with that victory?

How sad it is, that this question is even being asked.

Don’t know why Utah State”s coach isn’t in play for some of these job openings, the guy is excellent.
