IMO Kelly has done a masterful job with Golson this year but it would not have worked were it not for the character of Tommy Rees. The starter for most of 2 years and now he was a relief pitcher for the first u7 or 8 games or so, and now he’s just standing there watching, but always ready to go in.

And then come out.

Next year Gunner Kiel will be competing for the job as well.

I think ND has been getting better with every game – they could have blown out WF on Saturday but they didn’t. Kelly is keeping his weapons hidden, only showing what needs to be shown.

They should win Saturday but …..

Not a fan of either team, but if caution is due in any season, this is it. The red flag was obvious for Alabama after the tough LSU victory. Not so much last week for K State and Oregon, but Notre Dame needs to bring their A game because despite sanctions, USC is one of the most talent laden teams in the country.

I’ve heard some things about Barkley this year…since his school load is light, he has been seen out at night before games. Also, the way he has played this year, it looks like he is just slinging it out there hoping to pad his stats and be the hero.

Boy do I remember 64. And I recall Tony Carey at the 5 year re-union putting his head down in either misery or embarrassment when the ’64 game was discussed. (he was the out-of-position safety for ND allowing the winning end of game TD).

The picture has been in my head since we won Saturday.

By no mean am I a USC fan, I found them and their fans to annoying because they think they’re better than LSU.
However I don’t think Matt Barkley is as bad as some are saying that he is, maybe (a small maybe) a tab over rated. I thought they threw the ball way too much and the play callings was predictable, and the defense was absolutely horrible.
I think the coaching staffs or whoever it was that played on his ego and took advantage of his youth and talked him into returning for his Senior year, own him and his family an apology and some. Barkley was a lock last year to go first round, maybe in the top ten. Whoever it was that took advantage him, and promised him a National Championship plus a number one over all, caused him millions $$$
Say whatever you want about Nick Saban but he will never talk an undergrad to stay another year if he is a number one pick, never!!

a 3 day train ride across country to play a football game would be unthinkable in this day and age.

@papabush. I read the Irish band wasn’t traveling. I think it might be because they traveled to Norman. I’m not 100% positive about that, though. Either way, it’s going to be a heck of a game. I am nervous and giddy at the same time. I can’t wait.

Excited to play #1 Notre Dame! Going to be a great game. Best rivalry in all of college football! And best of all, ND understands what makes CFB great…traditions. UCLA does not. They are children. Our Drum Major will be stabbing the field, and we get to hear ND’s legendary song played by their legendary band (I just hope they don’t play it too much…plan on hearing Fight On more often). Great fans at ND. True fans. USC and ND fanbases are classic.

If Irish win, I hope they smother the SEC. However, I still hope for a USC win. Fight On!

Irishking – I don’t know how old you are but I remember 1964. ND should win this one but stranger things have happened. This is the oldest intersectional rivalry in the country. It goes back almost 90 years to the days when it would take a 3 day train ride for either team to get to the other’s home field.

I guess it’s a fitting ending to a pathetic season for us Trojan fans, no Matt Barkley against notre dame. Looks like Matt made the wrong decision to not go pro. I can only hope that the rest of the USC team finds some gumption and comes out to win the next game, unlike their pathetic performance against UCLA. Go Wittek!!! Who’s Wittek???

Either way, I’m nervous for the unknown. Barkley was hella overrated, and I’d almost rather he be in there—either way, this is usc’s super bowl, and they’re still good…just gotta make sure to check the jerseys and the footballs! Lmao what a joke.

Jessie Scroggins took his bad attitude and poor work ethics over to El Camino JUCO where he was able to squeak out a big two wins. He won’t be suiting up this week or ever helping the Trojans again. Max is talented but coach failed to get him any reps, so he’s green. Looks like another Mitch mustain moment with the Domers. Hope it rains.

Wittek is a redshirt freshman who grew up in Connecticut, attended Mater Dei High in SoCal, and was ESPNU’s #9 QB, Rivals.com #3 pro-style QB, and won the MVP at the Under Armour All-American game. He played Pop Warner ball in Connecticut with Silas Redd.

This may be a blessing in disguise. Wittek’s good and likely to be the starter next year. Barkley has pretty much sucked all year. All in all, the Condoms have nothing left to lose (having done plenty of that already).

On tap, should Wittek falter, is Cody Kessler or Jesse Scroggins. Kessler is also a pro-style QB whom many think is better than Wittek at this point. The ND defense will be a baptism by fire for whoever plays. One upside is that the Irish won’t have much video on any of the USC backups.

Im thinking that if ND beats Southern Cal and Barkley is playing what will that do to his stocks as a # 1 draft.If he lays low he has a better chance of going as a top draft then losing to ND and being looked over.Don`t play sick get out there and take it like a man and let ND beat you.JMO

Several sources confirmed to me that Barkley has been hurt all season anyway. Got better for Utah game but has had nagging shoulder injury all year. Additionally, after USC lost a few games, it seemed like Barkley stopped caring and just decided to sling it like crazy. Wittek is the man! If Lane treats this season correctly, he will search for an OC, fire Monte, get a new DC and 2013 will be a lot of fun
