Getty ImagesUnfortunately for both Fitz Toussaint and Michigan, the injury was indeed as bad as it initially looked.
The running back suffered a lower-leg injury on his third carry of the Wolverines’ blowout win over Iowa Saturday. After being tended to by UM medical personnel for several minutes, Toussaint was fitted with an air cast and taken off the Big House field via a cart.
Head coach Brady Hoke confirmed after the game that Toussaint had been taken to a local hospital and underwent surgery. While Hoke wouldn’t confirm the specific nature of the injury, the junior suffered what has been reported as a broken left leg.
Suffice to say, Toussaint’s season has come to a premature end because of the injury.
“It was heartbreaking to see Fitz in so much pain like that,” quarterback Devin Gardner said according to mlive.com. “Fitz is a really tough guy, and I’ve never seen his face grimacing like that. I pray he’ll be all right. I prayed as soon as I saw him down. I just started to pray and hopefully, he’ll be fine.”
Toussaint will likely finish the season tops among Wolverine running backs in rushing yards (514) and rushing touchdowns (five).
