The high academic standards for incoming football players line isn’t correct, as the previous poster mentioned. Yes Cal is a great school, but they have relaxed admissions standards for football players, something that makes getting owned by Stanford even more embarrassing.

Look at their graduation rates!

They get players into school that other programs in Pac 12 couldn’t touch! Shoot Marshawn Lynch went to school there!

A very poor decision by Sandy Barbour. I doubt that she has any coaching experience herself, so she truly doesn’t have the knowledge base of what it takes to run and manage a team especially with lots of injuries and personal problems. She’s probably just a ‘statistics hounddog’, just ‘flipping #s pancakes’. Don’t look for any major improvements to this team yet. Barbour has made a MAJOR decision in the wrong direction. Congrats to Tedford for what he did do for the program over this decade – we wish him well as he collects over $6M the school owes him. Comments?

That’s too bad it didn’t work out for him at Cal. He seemed to be a decent coach except when he was lobbing for a Rose Bowl berth a few years ago and then losing in the Holiday.

Cal is a Top 20 school, and Tedford overachieved for most of his tenure in Berkley IMO.

He was the best coach in the Pac 12, see the Steve Spurrier Rule on Burnout.

I never will understand why it’s so hard to win at Cal. I know it’s has high academic standards but the school is located in one of the largest states in the union. I think the next Cal coach may need to adjust thier recuriting philosophy. Recurit speed from Cal and get size from across the nation. I also think that you may need to hire a defensive coach. I don’t know who you could get right now. Maybe the Western KY coach

Tedford did a lot for Cal and gave many players a shot in the pro’s. I think the rest of the conference just got better overall and kind of left him behind. Tedford is 2-12 vs. Oregon, Stanford, and Washington since Chip Kelly, Harbaugh/Shaw, Sarkisian took over those teams. Add in the fact Tedford is 1-5 against Mike Riley at Oregon State over his last 6 games. You can’t keep your job when you get dominated by all the other coaches in the Pac-12 North. He got a nice 7 million dollar severance package though so good for him.

I’m glad this happened. California deserved better. Tedford just had no enthusiasm. And no idea what good football is. It’s a good job. Maybe now they’ll get someone in there who can make the a Pac-12 stronger conference.
