Only saying that as the BE is negotiating a new TV contract. They REALLY don’t want to join the useless Little East.

@rolltide – as a general rule of thumb, you are probably correct. But the Mountain West TV is deal is so bad it has to look up to see ground. Seriously bad. From the numbers I’ve read in various places, the absolute worst case scenario for a new Big East TV deal is still 3 to 4 times more money than the current Mountain West deal that essentially runs through 2019.

With the concept of AQ conferences going away, what’s the point of this move? I know the answer is typically TV contracts and the money that comes with it, but do people in major east coast markets really get excited to watch the big Pitt vs. Temple showdowns every week?

Boise and SDSU should make one seriously strong suggestion going forward: The members that ultimately replace UConn (or Louisville) and Rutgers need to both be western schools. In 2015, when this is still hopefully the envisioned 14 team league, all 7 teams in the western division need to truly be western schools: SDSU, BSU, UH, SMU and 3 more schools from west of the Mississippi. This ensures a “soft landing” if the eastern bloc of the conference ever falls apart (more football schools leaving due to further realignment or the baskeball schools saying enough is enough and going off on their own)
