But Teo’s tackles, sacks and interceptions were instrumental in landing ND in the BCS National Championship game on January 7th. Te’o did everything except play Beethoven’s 5th Symphony on the field but I understand that he is also practicing that to get ready for Bama.

Gfj2000, uhhh he hasn’t had just one good game all season. If that was the case, how would you explain that stats that are on track to break cam newton’s rushing and passing records? Manziel has produced a ton this season. Would A&M be the same without him? I’d say nope. Would ND be the same without Te’o? I’d day yes since he’s not much of a leader in stats at all.

Looks like this Sportswriter, John Taylor is one of the last reporters on the Titanic, that keeps ‘puffing up’ Johnny Manziel for Heisman – like Johnny M. is a ‘Pillsbury Doughboy’. One game doesn’t make you ‘THE HEISMAN AWARDEE! Perhaps he should check the majority of the writers that are saying that ‘Johnny won’t get it’ because he’s only a Freshman. Only (3) freshman have ever been awarded the Heisman in 75 years. So, he’s more suited to win the Maxwell award this year, and be up for voting for Heisman next year vs. the likes of DeAnthony Thomas and Marcus Mariota for starters… Better change your trumpet John, as it’s ‘out-of-tune!

Your on the money as fact Johnny is another Tebow and Newton the way he can cut and run,hes amazing.I got to see one game of his verse Bama and these A&M fans just go crazy in the stands lol.This kid has lightning speed,can cut very well at a high speed and tackling him he looks better then most runningbacks in the game.I wish him well when he reaches the pros cause this kid is amazing to watch.All i can say is wow each time Texas A&M goes on offense.By the way Texas fans who will be the QB come 2013 cause Johnny imo is ready for the next level.

Alot of good defense players in the game each year that are deserving.Most Heisman winners research back are either Quarterbacks or runningbacks,.Te`o is another one of those players that imo a Heisman player but he will not win regardless.Its like finding a piece very rare to like seeing another position win the Trophy.JohnnyManziel will win but if he should come in second it will be due to a tie and choose who will win between 1 & 2.My choice imo will be a QB,Manziel should win with little doubt and he is one of those rare players that play among others and imo deserving the trophy.

Te’o is a very good player. He’s not even the best at his position, though. As I said in a different thread, Kevin Minter has better numbers against better opponents, but he’s not on the #1 media darling with an admittedly cool name.

Manziel should win it but he won’t. He’s a freshman and while I think it’s completely stupid, there are enough voters that simply won’t vote for a freshman even thought he is the most valuable player in the NCAA.

Te’o will probably get the sympathy vote.

Te’o reminds me of the honey badger. I’m an LSU fan, but last year I didn’t think he deserved to in the heisman…the trip to NY yes…but not the trophy. Te’o's stats just don’t support it. The trophy isn’t about family tragedy. It’s about who’s the best athlete, Manziel’s on track to breaking cam newton’s records (who won the heisman) and already has better stats than tebow when he won it.

@spreadthecheese….preseason rankings mean absolutely nothing. Besides, schedules are built a few years in advance. Do you think nd sat last year and decided oh we’ll play so and so this year? Nope. A&M has played the harder schedule. I know you nod types want to say nd has had the toughest road, but the big ten has been super week this year and the service academies aren’t that good.

The only reason Te’o is in the conversation is because his girlfriend died.

It’s not an award for the best player on a undefeated team. Griffith won it last year at 9-3.
Preseason means nothing, there are lot of preseason players up for awards but it means nothing until it is earned. Boyd from Clemson is a far better player than Klein or the ND LB. he isn’t even the best defensive player in the country.

Because Manziel and Klein do not play defense. Compare who they have played, and their stats. Manziel has over 1,000 total yards more than Klein. In addition, Manziel has done this playing ‘Bama, LSU, and Florida. Top defenses. Klein hasn’t played a top 20 defense. I hear people say well Johnny Football had bad games against Florida and LSU. His bad games were better statistically than Kleins good games against unranked teams and defenses. He was horrible against the worst defense (statistically) in the country 120th Baylor.
You sound like a knowledgeable guy, check the stats and the watch some footage of the guys.
I’m not a ND guy but I do agree with them being ranked #1, but they haven’t faced SEC teams. Like them or not the SEC owns 6 of the top 10 BCS spots.

You can argue it any way you’d like but it still doesn’t add up. ND had the #1 schedule in the country prior to the start of the season, they’re 2-0 against top ten teams (A&M is 1-1) and the Irish are still undefeated and the Aggies have 2 losses.

Being a freshman is relevant because the award has never gone to a freshman. That doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t — it just means that generally the Heisman has gone toward upperclassmen (sometimes sophomores).

And the Heisman has also generally gone to a player on one of the top teams in the country. And while Texas A&M is a top team, why is it that Manziel is in the running with 2 losses but that Klein is now out of the picture with only 1 loss? Getting Kansas State to #1 is surely more impressive than what Texas A&M has done (which is record two losses).
