Brady Hoke expects Devin Gardner to get medical redshirt, fifth year

The post-Denard Robinson era at Michigan, presumably under the direction of quarterback-turned-wide-receiver-turned-quarterback Devin Gardner, might be more than just a one-and-done deal.

Wolverines coach Brady Hoke said Monday that the university has applied for a medical hardship waiver that would grant Gardner a fifth year of eligibility. According to Hoke, everything should be in line for the waiver to be approved as well.

I would expect that would go through,” Hoke said. “I think all the documentation and everything is being sent to the Big Ten.”

Gardner, a junior, has played quarterback for U-M the past four games after Robinson, a senior, suffered nerve damage in his throwing elbow. Gardner played sparingly as a freshman in 2010, recording stats in only two games before sitting out for the rest of the year with a back injury. He played wide receiver this season in order to get on the field and has 266 yards and four touchdowns.

But Gardner’s done a nice job in the past month filling in for Robinson. He’ll be the favorite to be Michigan’s starting quarterback in 2013, and probably in 2014 as well assuming the waiver is granted.

If the waiver is approved, Gardner will have two more years of eligibility remaining.

@pole – I actually thought about you this weekend as I was at the game and tailgated with a few michigan fans. It was hilarious – the common theme that prior to 11:30am, we’re all adults and could have a great time celebrating The Game. At 11:31am – It’s ON!!! You suck, f@#$ , and weapons would be branished!!!

i think this says as much about their concerns with shane morris as much as gardner getting another year. for what it’s worth, i wasn’t blown away with gardner. i could see another 3-4 losses coming again next year, and by 2014 they better have some skill position talent or it’s gonna be another long year. i will admit the future is a bit murky here. something that OSU fans seem incapable of after the softest undefeated season since… well, since your current coach was at idaho state or whatever. as soon as you scumbags get over yourselves you’ll find the next wave of NCAA sanctions bending you over.

Pretty sure he suffers from “Zach Boren made me a pancake.”

I am definitely enjoying the likes of datdang… and all the other sore losers from UM. It must have been so tantalizing that Hoke could out coach Luke Fickell… this year’s coaching lesson must be very humbling.

    Dear NCAA,

Please allow Garder an extra year.

    Buckeye Nation

    Dear NCAA-

Please allow Deenard Robinson & Devin Gardner an extra year.

As a life long Buckeye I’m glad D. Robinson is gone. That dude is amazing.

I’m an OSU fan and have to admit our schedule wasn’t that tough, but UM struggled in alot of games too. You got beat by Nebraska which is a team we scored 63 against! Let’s face it, the Big ten isn’t that strong and hasn’t been for awhile.

With Robinson gone it looks like no more High School Offense next year. At least we won our division and beat the teams that are in the Championship game.

And, what’s up with hoke and that female voice?
