APAs if losing to Florida 37-26 yesterday wasn’t bad enough for Florida State, the Seminoles lost a key player along its stout defensive line in the process.
Defensive end Tank Carradine sustained a knee injury in the loss, and the worst fears were confirmed today when coach Jimbo Fisher announced that Carradine has a torn ACL and is out for both the ACC championship and FSU’s bowl game. The injury, Fisher said, was non-contact.
Carradine (pictured, right) was originally a backup defensive end heading into the season, but a foot injury to Brandon Jenkins moved Carradine up the depth chart. He’s been practically unstoppable ever since, leading FSU in tackles (80) and coming in second on the team in sacks (11) and tackles for loss (13).
“He was mature, he handled it very well,” Fisher said. “Of course (he was) very sad because he wanted to finish the season with his teammate. It’s a very sad moment but he understood and handled it very maturely.”
It speaks to the depth and talent FSU has along the defensive line that a backup was able to come in and have a season like the one Carradine had. Set to replace Carradine at the defensive end spot are freshmen Mario Edwards Jr. and Giorgio Newberry.
FSU will play Georgia Tech in the ACC championship game.
