Since Coach Miles loves crawfish etouffee so much, I was thinking a long those lines but jambalaya is fine!

I could not conceive that Miles would disrupt his family life which is well established in Baton Rouge with its temperate climate compared to Fayetteville and head north, although at the time I did not realize that he was such long friends with the Arkansas AD Jeff Long. If I had known that I would have swallowed hard, but he gave
AD Long some recommendations of coaches to fill his vacant position.

A seven year contract, and Miles was suggesting he might go a 14 year extension in his press conference…ha.

In addition, Miles greatly improved “second fiddle” OSU during his time there. My point is, he is one of the top 5 coaches in NCAA football.

Arkansas is crazy because they need someone to build a program, not take over a top-shelf program. Did they forget that Saban resurrected LSU and Miles did didn’t crash the Corvette into the oak tree?

infrno…he did inherit a nicely rebuilt program loaded with talent one year removed from a national title. This isn’t like what Boom inherited from Meyer. You cite Saban’s records each year, but I noticed that you left out the 2 years prior to his arrival, 4-7 and 3-8.

Saban completely turned around that program and Miles has done a nice job maintaining and building on it.

All of that said, LSU should give the man a raise.

Les Miles is a great recruiter and a great coach. He is a fine father and a great man. Coach is odd, but so are Louisianans. When you have the Robertsons of Duck Dynasty, Swamp People, Cajun Justice, Cajun Pawn, and some that make those folks look normal (a few in my own family! ha.), then Les and his hats/caps and grass eating fits right in.

BTW, any of those detractors know how Saban finished at LSU with his players? He finished 9-3 and lost to the damned Hawkeyes. His records by year: 8-4, 10-3, 8-5, 12-1, 9-3.

Not taking anything away from Saban, he’s currently the best coach in college football. Les is 3-4 against Saban head to head and our program is unquestionably better off now than it was when Les was hired. I happen to think he’s a pretty good football coach himself.

Maybe the Gov’t should put a cap on college coaches salaries. That way the schools can use the savings to actually better the education quality of students. OMG, that is just too logical….I better call my shrink and get an appointment.

Yup! Who needs the aggravation when he has an established program at LSU! There is plenty of money at LSU and I can’t see Les Miles making this jump. At best he’ll leverage it to earn more at LSU.

I feel your pain. The world is upside-down now. Your problem is that you make too much sense with your posts. As a result, you need to seek help because you are a logical thinker. There are many of us out there (and I do mean “OUT THERE”) where logic, common sense, and character are no longer required in the society we live in. If you have money, you are an icon. If you don’t, you’re part of the 47% and are still a winner! For me, I’d rather switch than fight. I just get on the train and where ever it stops, I’ll get off and smell the flowers.

I’m surprised Cam wasn’t selected to be on the search committee for a new coach. Oh wait……. that would be a conflict of interest. Never mind.

Question: Do the TV dollars football and basketball bring in go to the athletic department or to the school?

Miles has a daughter that should be graduating this year from U-High. (I may be off a year.) See where she is going to school next year. Meyer’s daughter was enrolled at tOSU before he took the job.

I noticed Kentucky was left out of the plumb SEC jobs. Little wonder. However, the CFO of LSU is leaving — for Kentucky.

Miles and his family are more involved in community activities than you may think. Horizontal moves, e.g. to another school in the same conference much less same division, don’t make sense. But then much of college football doesn’t make sense.

IMHO, what SHOULD suffer (in order to pay players) is coaching salaries. I think it’s absurd how much money coaches are making these days, especially considering that schools refuse to pay the players anything more than the value of the scholarship.

I’m all for paying whatever the market bears to have a competitive team. Unfortunately, the current marketplace in college athletics keeps downward pressure on resources allocated to players (through maintaining that they’re amateurs), and allows those resources to shift towards coaches. So, in reality, coaches are getting what should be allocated to them, and much of what would be allocated to players. In the NFL, where you’ll find a more competitive marketplace for talent, you’ll find very few coaches who make more money than their star players.

Yea right, the SEC timed their members coaching search to rain on the Big East’s parade. ANY BE coach would be glad to take one of those SEC coaching jobs!
