And now we know the rest of the story.

Monday, Pittsburgh confirmed that defensive back Steve Williams had been dismissed from the football program for violating unspecified team rules.  According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Williams was arrested Saturday following an incident that involved assaulting a woman who may or may not have been his girlfriend.

An unidentified woman claiming to be Williams’ girlfriend alleged that the player had assaulted her at his apartment.  The Post-Gazette wrote that “[a]ccording to criminal complaint University of Pittsburgh police filed, the woman had marks on the right side of her chest and was holding strands of her hair.”

Williams denied that the alleged victim was his girlfriend.  He was charged with one count of simple assault.

After redshirting as a true freshman last season, Williams had not played in any games in 2012.

Does anyone think MAYBE this kid does not belong on a college campus anywhere? I hope colleges institute a zero tolerance rule when it comes to these kind of charges.

Another college athlete, who was recruited by a school that never looked into the individual’s character and background. Big, tough’ man’, in the neighborhood, but cannot interact with people getting an education in a campus environment….probably, not understnding the difference between a campus and the ‘hood’. There are no academic classes in the ‘hood’, and I’m sure that he seldom attends classes, in his major and minor: Pro Football and Speech.

Unfortunately the BUSINESS of big-time college athletics disregards the important character assessment of potential Student-Athletes. Even a school like Georgetown turned the other way when Coach John Thompson Sr. recruited a person who did prison time. That person was Allan Iverson. Can you imagine…..

He should be penalized by the school as well. No excuse for that.
