rsmeans:
You are not a very astute when it comes to college
football, are you? Things run in cycles, as you mentioned
some of the other teams that dominated over the years.
The SEC for the recent past were signing amounts of
atheletes (notice I didn't say, "student atheletes"), knowing
that they would never see the field. Now however, those
days changed 2 years ago, and they will me more in line
with the recruiting rules of the other conferences.
So, hang on to your jockstrap fellow, things are going to
change. Just like history shows!

Today is today, Tomorrow will be Tomorrow and most importantly yesterday was yesterday. In the past there were some great teams in the Big10, PAC12, Big12 and ACC. Those days are gone forever.

Today the SEC is totally dominant and tomorrow the SEC will be far more dominant. Auburn and Florida State have both won two NC's but Florida State has won the only two they will likely ever win. Texas, Oklahoma, ND, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska likely have won all of their present, future and past NC's in the past. The best players will play in the SEC. The other conferences are midgets. Facts are facts. Men are men and boys are boys.

As happy as I am (obviously) that the Gators beat the Seminoles last Saturday, I have always held Jimbo Fisher is high regard. Rooting interests aside, if you look at it objectively, this guy can flat-out coach. He may secretly be rooting for an FSU move to the SEC, but I doubt he leaves FSU for just any other "job". He readily accepted the challenge of following a legend in Bobby Bowden, and now the process has evolved into leaving a legacy of his own. His recruiting success ensures he'll win a lot of games for a lot of years in Tallahassee. I just don't see him going anywhere, nor do I see their administration pushing him out the door. The FSU job is a destination, not a stepping stone.

You are so correct. That puts all this entertainment into its perspective. We will continue in prayer for Ralph.

You are right about the peculiar events that effect other events. Even the teams in the SEC which annually have poor to dismal records are doing well financially.

Please keep my beloved bride of over a half century in prayer. She has a problem with her foot which has been hurting her increasingly for the past year. Surgeons today are puzzled. They did x-rays, even exploratory surgery and found nothing, but her pain increased. I told her I would carry her everywhere and she laughed and said I did well when we were married and I carried her over the threshhold of our then little apartment but she doesn't trust me to carry her now...ha. I am going to bring her to New Orleans tomorrow to a specialist.

Thanks for that post re the Williams Family and the CSRA. Happy to learn I am not alone re. feelings about Clemson. I agree that Jimbo would be better off at UTenn under the NCAA circumstances facing Auburn.

It's funny how life turns out. If Fla St would have accepted the SEC invitation in 1991, South Carolina most likely would have rejoined the ACC. Fla St most certainly would have been in a better financial position and South Carolina would have struggled financially. I enjoy reading your posts and best wishes during this Holiday Season! One last thought: can we all continue to pray for the Naval Academy player in critical condition from an auto accident. That puts football and everything else in perspective. Get well Ralph Montalvo.

Oh, I definitely agree with you that FSU should go undefeated in the a ACC virtually every year. And they did in the first 10 years or so they entered the ACC. But money (or lack thereof) eventually evens out the playing field and lets face it, FSU is just not making the money it did as an independent. In fact, one could surmise they made a tremendous error in judgement in 1991 when they rejected the invitation to enter the SEC. Their rejection opened the door for South Carolina and while it has taken awhile, Carolina is now realizing the financial success and hence the overall growth both academically as well as athletically. I doubt Florida will allow FSU to enter; that Georgia will allow Ga Tech to enter; or that South Carolina will allow Clemson to enter! Why should they? The football is already the strongest in the nation and there is nothing to be gained with any of those move from a TV POV. Allowing UNC and Va Tech in the conference would expand the TV footprint and makes sense. I just don't know how the "powers that are in the State of North Carolina" and who control the ACC will react. UNC not playing Duke? But times have changed and football drives the car. I can't see the Tar Heels in the Big Ten, but I can see them in the SEC. The basketball quality will still be good with Kentucky and Mizzou. It's funny to me that the ACC might be relegated to Big East status. I would LMAO at that. I was wrong for many years and I want to come clean about this: I was always hoping South Carolina would eventually go back into the ACC because I grew up/graduated from Carolina when legendary Coach Frank McGuire ran the show. I was wrong in hoping for that because Carolina has truly benefited by the financial gain of its affiliation with the SEC.

thegamecocker:

Dear life long friends, the Williams brothers, are both former renowned Gamecock players from a generation (or two) ago. Both have practices in the CSRA (Central Savannah River Area) and I visit as often as possible. They both have expressed countless times to me what you posted:
"...a successful season for South Carolina is when we beat Clemson" for very similar reasons.

Jimbo and his wife (and his children's foundation inspired by their son) have so many friends in Louisiana and throughout the southeast. There has been a move over the past couple of years to bring FSU into the SEC. FSU continues to say they are happy in the ACC, and of course they mention ACC basketball. Even some FSU boosters are rumored to have offered to pay the $50 M exit fee from the ACC. Slive has mentioned the SEC has not yet completed expansion, though they are happy with what they have now.

If FSU continues to delay or resist coming into the SEC, Jimbo may choose to come himself. It is all supposition, but Jimbo would probably work out better in Knoxville, than in the Plains.

UT has cash issues as well-at least on the AD side. The payoff for Dooley is gonna hurt even more, and to be honest I think we are even still paying Fulmer.

Either way, to be honest with you Fisher has never really done anything to impress me that much as a head coach. Considering the facilities, etc FSU has compared to the rest of the ACC, they should be undefeated on a yearly basis.

And there is not guarantee that FSU will tolerate Florida dominating them and hence Jimbo being unceremoniously "relieved of his duties." At Auburn, he has the money, facilities, and heritage (as questionable as that is with Cam and the NCAA "examining" the program). The NCAA may be the only reason he doesn't go there. But, can you say Tennessee? One last thought: FSU is struggling with their budget; UTenn is a cash cow.

The NCAA may be the only reason he doesn’t go there. But, can you say Tennessee? One last thought: FSU is struggling with their budget; UTenn is a cash cow.

Yes, Clemson owns a healthy lead over the Gamecocks in the series. Those who ignore history are destined to repeat it. Well the history over the past 4 seasons has gone to the Fighting Gamecocks. This sets us up well recruiting wise against Clemson. While I admit to be short-sighted, I still say a successful season for South Carolina is when we beat Clemson. That is just the way I feel because of the Clemson players, coaches, and fans. The impression I get is they actually think they are superior on the field and off the field. I don't like that.

As with Saban, you can't believe a word Fisher says. His agent is Jimmy Sexton who is one of the most powerful coaches agents in college football. Sexton is an expert at getting rumors out so that he can use those rumors to get his coach/client more money. Hell I think Sexton makes up half if not all the rumors about his clients. Sexton also has strong ties with the powers that be at Auburn. If he can get Fisher significantly more money at Auburn then he will be the next coach there. It's always about the money!!

Fisher was 2-0 vs Florida before he lost on saturday, and he was also 2-0 in bowl games, beating you gamecocks in the chick filet bowl in Atlanta in 2010.

South Carolina is on a roll with now, winning four straight over Clemson for the second time ever, but Clemson owns that series over the years

and, Georgia treats Georgia Tech like Florida treats Georgia....I think its 8 straight over GT for the dawgs now, the only series that Richt can consistently win.

I remember Nick Saban saying similar things when he was the coach of the Miami Dolphins. After what FSU experience Sat night against Florida, and the entire ACC vs. SEC match-ups/results from last Sat., he should now realize the SEC is dominant over the ACC and will be forever.
