He's a good coach - for a 2nd rate conference of Cupcakes - I truly believe he couldn't handle the Oregon job with the level of Top 5 team caliber program that Chip has built (and style of speed/no huddles offense, and more) in such a short time. He doesn't have Kellen Moore to lean on this year, that's why his team is just a Top 20 'also ran' team. He'd have a major cultural challenge at Oregon. I agree. Clearly endowment size does not equal athletic success. Were that the case Harvard would dominate virtually every other school in the country. I was specifically responding to the statement that TCU did not have the "resources" to compete with larger schools. I assumed they were suggesting that TCU did not have the money to do so.

It seems like you are the one with reading comprehension... as well as many other... issues.

pricecube said: Although TCU is a small private college, our endowment is more than three times the size of Auburn’s. It is substantially larger than Arkansas’ also...

I understand what you're saying. Endowments are a good measure of an institution's stability, but don't necessarily equate into athletic success or the ability of an institution to pay coaches.

The University of Richmond's (who?) endowment is 57% larger than TCU's, but athletically, the two schools aren't in the same breath most of the time.

And, if endowments directly mattered, the upcoming SEC championship would be between Vanderbilt (4.5 times the endowment of UGA) and Texas A&M (7 times the endowment of Alabama).

Dear pricecube.

Do you remember saying this?

"Thank God he did not. Instead he decided to leave and take over the Alabama Crimson Tide. It was a disaster. Franchione is now coaching the Texas State Bobcats and making 350k a yr…. "

I'm sorry, maybe its me that is the retard and not you, but I dont see anything in that line about Mike Dubose. All I see is you calling Franchione's tenure at Bama a "disaster."

Maybe some remedial English classes would help. I'm guessing your previous schooling was a DISASTER. LMAO

pricecube, you are such a retard. Franchione was not a "disaster" at Alabama, Alabama was the disaster with NCAA sanctions being handed down over the previous staff. Another example of you and a few others on this board totally pulling bullshit out of your arse.

Franchione was 10-3 in his second year of a rebuilding job at Bama and was offered a healthy contract extension, but he elected the Midnight Express to TAM.

The one thing you've ever been right about is Patterson, he's not going anywhere. Congrats. LOL

One more reason Gary Patterson will likely ignore all offers from the SEC: Dennis Franchione...

Franchione was TCU's head coach around 2000, Patterson was his DC. Franchione was the one originally responsible for the resurgence of the program in Fort Worth. He could have stayed at TCU and continued making almost 2M a yr... along with country club membership and other perks for the rest of his life. Thank God he did not. Instead he decided to leave and take over the Alabama Crimson Tide. It was a disaster. Franchione is now coaching the Texas State Bobcats and making 350k a yr....

Not only did Gary Patterson see his former head coach ruin his career (Franchione saw the writing on the wall with NCAA sanctions for previous offenses and left for Texas A&M after two yrs at Bama)... He was also the beneficiary of a huge leap of faith on the part of TCU. He was then an unknown DC. TCU had pretty big bucks to spend on a coach and the desire to build a program.. They took a big chance on him and it paid off.

I may be wrong but I think it would take a lot for him to leave. He has a good thing going... TCU will stick by him no matter what. He is the program at this point. How many other schools could say that? How long would he be given to rectify things at Auburn if he started losing?

Just my opinion.

I agree with you that he may very well stay at TCU. That being said with coaches, it is not always the money (although it doesn't hurt), it's the ego. I don't see that as a bad thing really as every coach is always a few losses away from the hot seat, but would be nice to see a "modern" coach stick around for a program for 20-30 years

I would be shocked if GP left TCU.

I think people are seriously underestimating A.) the money and resources TCU has, B.) how great a city Ft. Worth is, C.) GP's loyalty to the program, and D.) the amount of unfinished business he has there.

After all he has done, all he has built there, and the money TCU is already giving him, it would take a serious paycheck to lure him away and I don't think Arkansas or Auburn would be willing to spend that much to get him when they can get other good coaches cheaper.

I'd bet he would be reluctant to even go to USC or Texas if the jobs were available.

He's been a top candidate for jobs at Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan plus many more over the years and he has always declined and stayed at TCU. I don't see what could happen this year that would be any different.

"I know the TCU faithful would do all they could to keep him, but they don’t have the resources to keep up with the big schools."

TCU is already paying CGP over 3 M a yr. Although TCU is a small private college, our endowment is more than three times the size of Auburn's. It is substantially larger than Arkansas' also. I believe we would match anything either of these schools could offer (big)*IF* CGP were interested. We have much deeper pockets than they do. We are also going to be getting 20 mill per yr from ESPN which is comparable to what SEC teams make from television rights. The only school I think that has a good shot at Patterson is possibly Texas when/if they fire Mack Brown.

Well, I see Malzahn going to Arkansas of course-assuming they offer him the job. I do not see a reason why they would not unless there is someone "big" in play there.

Auburn, I would say Patterson would be the choice-if he wants the job that is.

In addition to Petersons special needs child, is he not a member of LDS church? No judgement, just questioning how that would go over in the South. Of course, winning often eleminates any bias.

Charlie Strong is another coach to keep an eye on-SEC and HC experience that I definately see being in play for either Auburn or UT.

Petersen has spent one year of his life somewhere other than the west (he was a Pitt assistant for one year), and has said it was the worst year of his life. Highly doubt he goes to Auburn. Its been said the only two jobs he'd leave Boise for are Oregon and Cal. 1 is open now, and the other just well might open up too. If he moves on, it will be to one of those two schools.

Anyone would be lucky to get Gary Patterson. He does more with less than anyone. His recruits are usually three star guys and his defenses are monsters. Auburn or Arkansas would both do well to see him stalking up and down their sidelines. I know the TCU faithful would do all they could to keep him, but they don't have the resources to keep up with the big schools. I shudder to think what he might have accomplished at Texas with the dollars and facilities they have.

I doubt very seriously whether the Boise coach would take the job. I believe he has a special needs child and the hospital where he is at now, provides very well for his child's needs.
He would sure be an exciting coach to bring into the SEC, but I doubt he would make the move, even given the fact that his salary would triple at Auburn. I think he might be a little leery of making the move also, in light of the fact that Auburn is under some type of NCAA investigation involving two of the assistant coaches presently at there. He, I am sure though, would be a very good coach at the school.
