first of all hound of vols you just dont want to admit that strong turned u guys down and also can u tell me who would be more qualified right now because u havent even mentioned anyone else which suggests to me there isnt anyone better and also everyone can just stop saying that auburn and tenn and ark will offer more money to steal him away because the ad of lousville has alread said he will make him the highest paid coach and they have the money to do it. Besides why would he leave a team with a soon to be 3 year starting quarterback that will be a heisman candidate next year. To say he would leave that is absurd.

Did any of you really believe that Charlie was really gonna say if he was interested in leaving before Louisville played this past Thursday. There’s no way he would say that. That would have been stupid. If he had he would have caused so much confusion at Louisville they would have probably lost to Rutgers. Charlie would be good for the team and the team would be good for Charlie. But the bets fit at Auburn would be Gus Malzahn because of Gus already being familiar with the team, the university and the players, and even more so he would help save the recruits that are now decommitting because most of them were coming for Gus to begin with. Gus was the one that did the best recruiting at Auburn they were truly coming for him, not Gene. All these incoming kids were coming for the spread offense and all that was being changed, but if Gus comes you’ll see it and the recruits come back, not to mention he will probably bring his QB with him

Strong does not have an SEC ready resume. Call it what you want it, I dont care, but he has not demonstrated that he is a top tier coach. Auburn is looking for a “proven winner,” there is nothing to suggest in 3 years at Louisville that Strong fits that criteria.

Have a hanky everybody, dry your eyes, and get ready for a string of 7-8 win seasons at Louisville. Sorry.

in his defense , for some of you less astute college football followers,
have you ever try to recruit top flight players to Louisville? Allow me to reveal something that is not a well-kept secret: It is HELL recruiting to places like Louisville! Give the guy his due for taking the challenge.

Nah I get that but at all three of these open SEC schools left the talent pool is kinda lacking with most of the impact players leaving and I don’t know if any of these schools have the patience to deal with a reload.

I wouldn’t call Gruden a fraud. Overrated maybe but not a fraud. He took over a Dungy team left in salary cap hell and had no choice but to get rid of a lot of people. People forget that it was the team he personally built that he faced in the Super Bowl.

I think Strong would be a pretty good SEC coach. He has restored the talent on Louisville and has them winning again. Why should Strong leave? The path of least resistance towards a BCS bowl is the Big East for him.

Look, not all Vol fans are idiots. Coach Strong is a great man and a solid coach, and I certainly don’t want him at a program with tons of resources like Auburn.
Even though he’s 4th or 5th among my choices for our job, there’s no reason not to believe he’d be successful as a HC in the SEC

I understand what you typed, which was “two teams with losing records”, and that is inaccurate, now and when you typed it. Win-loss records aren’t frozen in time…I don’t see what difference it makes what the record was at the time. But regardless, if you meant “losing record at the time”, perhaps you could’ve typed that, so we’d ALL understand. The underlying point is that Coach Strong’s body of work as both a DC and a HC suggests that he is anything but a “fraud”, and losing to Syracuse doesn’t change that. You said on another thread that you want Al Golden at UT…how is Coach Strong a “fraud”, but Coach Golden is the real deal? Is it his stellar 40-45 career record? You’re knocking on Strong for 12 losses in his 1st 2 years, when Golden had 19 in his? Strong (as a DC, admittedly) has ALREADY WON IN THE SEC….Golden did okay in the MAC. Well, bully for him, but Ypsilanti is a far cry from Tuscaloosa. Not trying to destroy Golden, because I like him, too, but by virtually every measure, Strong is more of a proven commodity. You don’t have to like him, but calling him a “fraud” when his team is in line to play in a BCS bowl is pretty ridiculous.

Syracuse is 7-5 (5-2 in conference)…I knew Tennessee fans couldn’t read, but I did think at least they could count. “Fraud” was a very poor and unwisely used word to describe Strong, who has done nothing to suggest he’s anything of the kind. He’d be a major upgrade over any coach that’s roamed UT’s sideline in quite some time. I’m sure Auburn would love to have him, and if your fan base had any sense, y’all would, too. Good luck with that Gruden thing. I’m sure he’ll say nice things about Knoxville from the MNF booth next year.

@roundup5 he was DT coach for Spurrier at UF then was under Holtz at ND and USCe. He was DC under Zook and Meyer at UF. Was interim HC for 04 Peach Bowl after Zook was (FINALLY) fired.
