Nothin like a battle of tiger paws: you go on campus at either one of these 2 wonderful institutions of higher learning and you run smack into nothing but a walkway lined of tiger paws from the time you hit the entrance to the time you exit. Geesh, don’t you just love it? But mostly don’t you just love our version of Death Valley more,hahaha? Have you noticed how pleasant this thread has become? I wish you the best as well. I am preparing to depart for Auburn, where we will rest and gain some volunteers, then to Knoxville where we will gain some doctors and dentists and supplies, then up to Appalachia.

I think southernpatriots may have a way to access this site on the road, but I don’t know how, but I may be able to use their access, if we are in the same area. I can’t believe they will be moving during the same time before and during the holidays. Bless you southernpatriots!

cometkazie: (or rather JT will for us..ha.) …. “restock the larder” we are laughing at what you post again. My wife and I are remembering our old larder and the root cellar. Try having a root cellar in south LA and it takes alot of effort to keep it from filling with ground water…ha! Life is definitely easier now but this moving bit has not settled on me yet. Don’t like the idea at all, but I see the wisdom in it. My wife said we could get the high school footballers we bring GatorAid and PowerAid, etc. to, to help us…I think I am warming to that idea quickly.

A dear friend, a physician, who was very beloved in the region, and a supporter and booster of our local school, a great community leader, etc. passed away unexpectedly, leaving a wife and three young children. This has hit our region quite hard. We are working with many others to help the family, and then preparing and gone to Appalachia so take care of yourself until next time!

Southernpatriots, yeah I did forget and can blame it on being upset from earlier still. But nonetheless, thank you for reminding me. I understand what you mean by moving. It wasn’t easy leavin my family and comin down here specially with a Bama tag on my car and a UofA parkin permit still in place from when the youngest bro was still in school eons ago. But your’s truly among others have made the move a lot easier. You, a certain sistah-in-law of your’s, gatorsnapper, tigersgeaux, and some more good people have made me feel a lot better since bein here. I realize this isn’t a football chat but I know of no better place to say thank you to you and those others who’ve helped make me a better person. I hope when I have my time to come up to either leave on my own or the Big Guy calls I can go with the knowledge that I know some pretty good folks on a football blog and other places in Louisiana as well as what a ride it was to be a proud LSU fan (even against 3′s disapproval back home). Thanks again to each of you who made me feel as if you didn’t mind what I had to say tho at times I’m sure you wished I’d kept my mouth shut. Da Mous’ outa here for a while.

suprmous: I know you meant to type andoille sausage rather than boudin but I understand your sentiments. I have to be careful in adding to much andoille because the one I use is one I (and my wife and family) slow smoke using plum, apple, and apricot wood.

I was going to bring some crawfish etouffee to Coach Miles to celebrate his new 7 year contract extention and his first raise in a few years, but I understand from his assistant that he already has received several from other fans and alums. I will make him one later. Our Appalachian Outreach starts very soon and need to prepare for it.

We also may well be moving very soon. We live close to a bayou and have for many decades with no problem. Since Hurricane Isaac the flood plain in south Louisiana has changed. We were told that we were now in the middle of the new flood plain. The older you get, the harder it is, and the less you want…to move!

It has been a fantastic ride with Miles. He is a family man, a great father, and a player’s coach. He loves football. Watch his presser after the Ole Miss game to confirm. He loves his players and his players love him. He is 85-20 as head football coach at LSU with a .810 winning percentage, the highest percentage of all LSU coaches in history.

I am more aggravated at John Chavis than I am Miles for the last Alabama game but that is done. Forward and upward!

I too was frustrated in the BCS game. After seeing how the season started, I now completely understand why Les did what he did. Lee was historically TERRIBLE against Alabama (hell, if it weren’t for JJ we would have lost in Tuscaloosa) and Mett was nowhere near ready for that defense. Either of them would have turned the ball multiple times and the end result would have almost assuredly been much worse. I fault Chavis for the ‘Bama game this year. I too was at the game with my 6 year old son, he was PISSED!!

Les went with what had previously worked and with what had the best chance to work at the time. Hindsight is 20/20, and all.

And yes, you are correct and nobody brings it up enough regarding the number of players lost due to various reasons this season. The number of redshirt and true freshmen starting for LSU was something very damned few teams could have won with, and yet we finished 10-2, should have been 11-1, and wasn’t very far from 12-0 in the toughest conference in the country.

But for one play in the LSU-Alabama game (which I was at along with my daughter), LSU would be playing Saturday for a shot at the BCS championship. LSU also lost six starters over the course of year and dealt with a new QB that matured as the season progressed. Under Les, the Tigers are a perennial contender…he graduates his players…and most of the key matchups are exciting games to watch in the fourth quarter. Is he one of the best coaches in the country..without a doubt. Was I upset with him leaving Jefferson in last January….you bet. Did I question some calls during the season..sure. But Les coaches the game with a passion that is reflected in his teams. AND draws the continued interest of other programs that want to get BETTER! For the Les haters…I don’t get it. For the Tiger Nation…damn hasn’t this been a great ride with Les as our head coach!

Press Conference quotes from Joe Aleva, LSU Athletic Director, yesterday:

“Les Miles is one of the premier coaches in the country and has LSU in contention for championships year in and year out,” Alleva said. “Only two coaches in the 119-year history of LSU football have coached as many years at this school and only one has won more games. Les Miles has made a commitment to LSU and LSU is solidifying its commitment to Les Miles.”

The 2011 National Coach of the Year, Miles has an eight-year record of 85-20 at LSU going into its 2012 bowl game. He has won .810 percent of his games since coming to Baton Rouge in 2005, the fifth best winning percentage in the history of the SEC, while taking the Tigers to the best eight-year record in school history. He has led LSU to four top five finishes, two Southeastern Conference titles and the BCS National Championship in 2007. Two years in a row LSU has posted the second best Graduation Success Rate in the SEC, trailing only Vanderbilt.

“The coaching business is a competitive one and it is important to compensate our coach for his accomplishments and his worth,” Alleva said. “Les has not received a pay increase since his salary was automatically elevated following our national championship in 2007 and he has continued to keep LSU on the national stage.

You know, I have always wondered why people from the north, especially the ones who have never been down south other than for major events like Mardi Gras or a SB, have always wrongly stereotype folks from the south?
No tooth, bad Engalished talking, wife beatin, sista loving SOB!!
I’m a history guy and can actually write a peer review article on that one day, but for the sake of time and laziness I’ll just give you a summary of what my wife and I concluded…
When I said people from the North, I’m basically am including everyone not from the south… My wife was raised in Southern California before moving to Forth Worth, she still have friends that we sometime visit every now and then when in California..
When I tell her friends that I’m from Louisiana they always say, “you don’t look like you’re from there.”
I’m like, how are people from Louisiana supposed to look like..
After they warm up to me, they (never fells either) would ask about how bad is racism, you ever get scared sometime, (this next one is no joke, someone really did asked me this) which school did I attend while still in grade school, segregated one, or are they all still segregated?
My in-laws, when they first met me, asked me how did I keep my car so cleaned while driving on all those dirt road?
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, both because it was so funny and the fact that they were being serious, I laughed so hard that I cried!!
When I tried to explained to them that people from Nal’leans are same as those from NYC, there’s willing not that much different..,they would all give me this look “a deer in a headlight look.”
I remembered flying to San Francisco one year, during Bush jr re election, for a business meeting, I couldn’t help but over heard a conversation between this guy, from San Francisco and this lady from Miami, people really really have a pre-conceived notion of what the south is, and just like my wife’s friend, these two were just plan ignorant and only regurgitate what the hear or saw on tv, but they have never met anyone from the south or know of anyone from the south.
Why I certainly brought this up?
I’m going to sum this up as short as possible, the media and those people in Hollywoods that does all the reality tV shows..
I was flipping through my TV one day and came across a TLC show called “Honey Boo Boo…” after five mins of that show I turned off the TV and picked up a book, because it was absolutely disgusting how TV producer would flame the stereotype..
It was show like this and many more that try’s to capture, or this case exploit, a family that has no business in show business, not because they were not worthy or talented. But because of the hate and prejudice they will have endure many years to come, people are laughing at them and labeling everyone in the south as the same.
Do producers and directors not watched what before they air this and ask themselves, “is this how the south really is? And at whose expense do we air this?”
In the media and their never ending class warfare. When will it all stop? When will they stop with ignorant ass comments.
Anyway, I better because I know I an definitely go on and on an on about this false stereotype.

My basset Harvey died a couple of years ago. I haven’t been able to get another once since but I will one day. You’re right on the bad name.
