Hard to find details on this sentencing, but one article I read said the judge was recommending a “9 month boot camp.” From the Louisiana Corrections website I found this….

IMPACT (Intensive Motivational Program of Alternative Correctional Treatment)

The IMPACT Program is a two-part program. The intensive incarceration phase includes strict discipline, physical exertion, community service hours and most importantly several rehabilitative therapeutic regimes in substance abuse, value reorientation, self-discipline and responsibility, Moral Reconation Therapy, parenting, basic life skills and education. IMPACT offenders participate in the incarceration phase for a minimum of 6 months. Once the incarceration phase is complete, the offenders are recommended for parole to one of three options: an approved residence plan, a residential substance abuse treatment facility or a work release center. All trainees enter into an intensive parole phase lasting a minimum of six (6) months and then continue on to regular parole supervision under Louisiana Probation and Parole until their full term date expires.

His judge has recommended him to the Louisiana first offender boot camp program.

That is what I wrote about this matter when the idiot first offended and there was more concern about his welfare than he showed for himself or his victim when he offended.

Brian Downing will only go to Angola if he flunks out of the Louisiana First Offender boot camp program, in which case Brian Downing is even more stupid than he already is. I think even if he flunks out they may send him to the Psyc Ward at Jackson rather than Angola. Rest easy out there!

Getting raped in Angola (or wherever) and running an enormous risk of contracting HIV seems way too harsh. I think that speaks even more to the brutality of our prison system than the length of the sentence. Make him pay a large fine… twenty times what a professional would charge to be tea bagged. That would be fair. The guy was an idiot and a jerk. Still, he does not deserve this.

Apparently not. And somehow a judge and prosecutor feels that Angola State Penitentuary is not filled enough already? Do we want another “Dead Man Walking?” We live in very strange times.

I think he needs some Cajun Justice. I would have had him intern with Troy and Miss Lizabeth on their boat next alligator season and feature it on Swamp People. Then if the fear of something wasn’t in him by then, send him out with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff and his Cajun Justice deputies when they patrol the lower Bayou Terrebonne.
