If the Pac-12 expands again, I would think that Boise State and New Mexico are the next two logical candidates. Boise State has the best football program in the Mountain West and New Mexico has the best Basketball program in the Mountain West. While the Lobos may be down right now in Football, they do have success in the recent past. Also, Albuquerque and Boise are basically the largest remaining markets in the West that the Pac-12 doesn’t have a solid foothold in (the league already controls Las Vegas despite not having a school in Nevada). Boise State would join the Pac-12 North and New Mexico would join the Pac-12 South. As replacements for BSU and UNM, I would expect the Mountain West to add Idaho and New Mexico State, who currently are football-only members of the Sun Belt.

I doubt the pac would ever accept Texas’ heavy hand. The other teams in the 12 have no choice, the need to recruit Texas and most have no where else to go. The PAC is not in that position.

Boise would be an Option. But how does Boise compete in all sports ? Of course you’ve got to look at Nevada and San Diego. Plus I would at least try to pick up one or a couple of Texas teams.

This would be a stupid idea. How could you add those teams but wouldn’t add Texas & Oklahoma. SMH!!!!!!!! To think that these are the people making decision for our youth. Just like the big Ten, another watered down conference.

I have always disliked Boise but I must admit that from a football standpoint any conference would strengthen themselves by choosing Boise.

You know what’s funny? The college football season wasn’t ruined until it became clear the ACCs days were numbered.

They are forced to go to east to Texas to get more teams.

They may never expand, but if they do and they can’t get Texas and Oklahoma they will almost be forced to take Houston and SMU to get those markets.

Seriously – would you rather add Boise or the number 5 and 8 television markets in the US?

The SMU/Houston pair will end up somewhere. If not the Pac-whatever it will be the ACC or the remains of the Big East/ACC if the ACC is decimated.

The PAC 12 has serious geographical issues to overcome as they attempt to expand to 16 teams. There simply are not enough quality programs out west to fit the PAC needs.

Boise is a great story, but academically they are no where near the PAC12. San Diego State is a quality candidate, but it’s in a state the PAC12 already owns.

It’ll be interesting to see what Larry Scott does. I think Nevada might be a possibility, and BYU would be a super addition if they could work around the no games on Sunday requirement.

Eh, I am quite certain that the more rational UT fans were never truly sold on Gruden. Personally, I thought the whole thing was kind of a joke until people started denying things-which always means there was some contact.

The more rational of us would rather get someone who has been a strong assistant, etc and suffer through the next year or two in setting up for a decade of success rather than have someone who would be eyeing another job in two years.

This is a totally more logical fit for these two teams. Stay regional with capability to attract more recruits. Big East is all but done, makes no sense to get involved with them at all.

On one hand, I would love for Boise to join the Pac 12 so that Chris Petersen can ply his trade against BCS competition week after week.

On the other hand, if this happens then Boise will pay CP more money and that would end the annual speculation and best free entertainment in the world about who will hire him next. Right now the 2012 King Jackass Title goes to Arkansas… “its a done deal, announcement to come Monday.” hahahahaha

Second place to Auburn, runner up to California.
