Florida State holds off Georgia Tech, wins first ACC title since ’05

Louisville likely earned a BCS berth on Thursday night with a win over Rutgers to give the Cardinals a share of the Big East title. Barring a huge jump in the BCS rankings by either Boise State or Northern Illinois, Louisville should play in the Orange Bowl against the ACC champion.

That would No. 13 Florida State, who held off Georgia Tech 21-15 in the ACC championship game. The Seminoles ¬†got off to a fast start against the Yellow Jackets, but failed to score at all in the second half and needed a late-game interception to seal the game. Georgia Tech’s defense, which saw coordinator Al Groh get fired earlier this season, held FSU to 328 yards and forced three turnovers.

Tech’s defense, for what it’s worth, had been giving up 30 points a game this season heading into the ACC championship and had given up over 40 points six times this season.

It was one of Florida State’s more uninspiring performances, a theme for the Seminoles in games in which they’re favored, but FSU has won its first ACC title since 2005.

Georgia Tech, at 6-7, will receive a bowl waiver from the NCAA allowing them to play in a bowl game.

Ej Manuel continues to show flashes of genius and flashes of “what the hell, ej”. He’s so inconsistent I don’t even know if we could beat Louisville

Whoop-ti-doo. Lame conference with declining programs and self-imposed bowl bans. I hope Louisville pummels the crap out of these jokers.

Big congrats to the Seminoles. Many friends who are FSU fans, and it’s nice to see them back on the rise!

Thanks and bye EJ. Got to get more consistency and production from the QB position! Should have been 13-0!

Manuel is a great athlete but not a great QB. To have any success at the next level, he has to stop holding onto the ball too long, and stop throwing off his back foot/overthrowing his receivers.

Florida State is much better then what we where but not where we should be.
FSU shouldn’t be in dog fights with 6-6 teams or held scoreless by NC state in the 2nd half & making come backs at Clemson & VaTech to win the game. Nothing more then average at best.
