Yeah, I was keeping my listing to schools that had fired coaches based on supposed “mistreatment” of players. As far as I know, Tedford was just outright canned for having a poor record the last few years.

With Leavitt, Mangino, Mike Leach, etc seems the programs went from top 25 back to being bottom dwellars pretty quickly. Perhaps the teams those coaches had as consistent top 25 were good because they knew they were going to be held accountable by their coach.

Glen Mason at Minnesota and Mark Mangino at Kansas. Both programs have absoultely bottomed out since their firings. I think one school in danger of this is Cal. As mediocre as Cal has been for the most part under Tedford, they were absolutely dreadful before he got there.

But as far as Holtz goes, as a Bulls graduate, at first I was like “fuck yeah.” Then I thought about it for a second and I realized that the same idiot that gave Holtz a contract extension after going 5-7 last year, who just so happens to be the guy who hired Holtz in the first place, is going to be the guy hiring the replacement. As far as I’m concerned, that’s three strikes against the AD, Woolard. Firing Leavitt, whether it was primarily his call or not, hiring Holtz, and then giving him an extension after finishing below .500.
