I really don’t understand what Coach Spurrier’s shortcomings in the NFL has to do with this thread. By his own admission, the NFL experience was something he wanted to try given his prowess for offense, but one that he found not rewarding. He came back to the college game and has lifted THE University of South Carolina into relevance. He is now South Carolina’s all-time winning coach. He took mediocrity and made it much better.

It’s obvious to everyone who reads your posts that your dislike of Coach Spurrier has to do with the number of times his Florida Gators have beaten FSU. What you label arrogance, I view as confidence.

You know, the one who enabled a child molester. The one who looked the other way and the one who tried to cover up his crimes.

Actually, I’m a Florida St fan, so Spurrier actually hasn’t beaten my team in quite a while. If I remember correctly, he did actually lose a couple of years ago though. What I said wasn’t an attack on South Carolina. It was on Spurrier. What has he done in the last decade to justify any of his arrogance? The unmitigated disaster in Washington? He has done some nice things in South Carolina, but they’ve only won a division title once under him. And that was a year in which Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee were all down.

I love the guy too when he’s taking shots a Saban, Richt, Muschamp, Dooley, or that idiot Fulmer, but a backhand to Northwestern is an insult to Pat Fitzgerald, who has done a fantastic job at one of the most prestigious universities in the lower 48.

Probably the thing that pisses me off about this is a. it was unnecessary, and b. it just expands and perpetuates the belief that we are all a bunch of uneducated hillbillies down here who only have a life between late August and around January 7th. The rest of the time we’re all glued to the tube watching Honey Boo Boo and Rocket City Rednecks.

Coach Spurrier wanted to play a higher profile Big Ten team, no dis paraging Northwestern. The Wolverines are a respectable 8-4. He’s avHall of Fame coach who has earned the right to make statements. It’s not a popularity contest. If you don’t find him entertaining, that’s your prerogative. But calling The Head Ball Coach stupid makes you appear ignorant. And I don’t think your ignorant.

Not unlike Ohio State not playing any other schools from Ohio for many, many years. If they beat the crap out of say, Cincinnati, it’s ho-hum. If they don’t beat Cincinnati by a ton or (gasp!) lose, then they’re the biggest bums in the world. Lose-lose situation with no upside.

That being said, when he does finally retire, CFB will be a worse-and less entertaining place.

This game wouldn’t be the same the same without you. Keep on keepin’ it real, man.

Maybe he’s trying to arrange a future non-conf game with Northwestern.

Taking cheap shots at private schools is pretty low, even by his standards.
