Wow. I'm just now realizing how bad this bowl season is. Do you realize there are already FIVE teams that have participated in bowl games that are finishing their respective seasons with LOSING records?

Purdue, Duke, Air Force, Minnesota, and Iowa State, all finished their seasons with 6-7 records. And we're guaranteed one more because Pitt plays Ole Miss on January 5, and both teams are 6-6 entering that game. That'll make SIX losing record teams in bowl games this year.

The criteria needs to change to SEVEN wins to qualify. Why reward mediocrity? I thought we stopped giving out little trophies to each kid that participates back in, like, the 3rd grade. And then we hear complaints about how teams that go to anything but a BCS bowl actually LOSE money? This is pathetic.

blitz4848 says:
Dec 3, 2012 7:35 AM
What a lousy bowl schedule.
How about this one for US FANS thay pay the freight!!!!!

BCS–Notre Dame – Bama
Rose–Stanford – Georgia
Sugar–Florida – Oregon
Fiesta–K-State – LSU
Orange Bowl–South Carolina – FSU
Cotton Bowl–Texas A&M – Texas (The Aggies hate UT)
Capital One–Oklahoma – Nebraska (for old time sake)

These would be more watchable, even matches and a bonus for all the SEC and SEC haters is 6 head to head matchups that would give the fans lots to debate, blog and bitch about.

I say screw the conference alignments and how many per conference restrictions!!! The above matchups would fill the stadiums, pack the local hotels, have great TV ratings and all the host chamber of commerce people would be smiling.

Hell, the Oklahoma-Nebraska would pack Orlando to the gills and renew that old Thanksgiving Friday rivalry we all used to have on our “must see TV list………

We need a a BOWL CZAR to appease us fans…..

Hmmmm...... I bet the above guy is not from the SEC. pause. Not. Fact of the matter is the SEC may be the power conference but their fans don't travel as well as other schools. If they do go to the bowl games it's because all the bowls they play in are from Texas to Florida. So again in the end it is all about the money. If SEC fans could back up all there talk with traveling to the games then you'd probably see the rules change quicker. Now I gotta go bang my sister. Roll Tide!

Dear Jim:

Thank you for the encouragement. Maybe as my wife is telling me, I just have too much on my plate and these pairings for the bowls look very strange.

Coach Miles seems happy to be playing Clemson (the other "Tigers" with the other "Death Valley", etc. ha.). LSU started the season with the expulsion of its most celebrated player (Tyrann Mathieu, "the Honey Badger") and then with numerous injuries to key starting and veteran players, to where our OL looked like a patchwork with several of the 4 playing out of position. It took to the Gamecock game when the OL seemed to gel. It was a entertaining (or hair-raising) season so far...ha.

Thank you again Jim.

The LSU-Clemson game looks like it could be a good one... the first half should be really exciting:)
Hopefully Clemson will show up and play in the second half, too...

florida727:

I know you are right about the conference tie-ups. That is where things start getting confusing for me. Some of these matches I cannot explain. When others ask me questions, I realize how ignorant I am about some of these tie-ins and why some teams were chosen over others.

You are correct about what appears to be a penalty against UGA and some other teams for playing the eventual SEC champion and barely losing or losing to a top ranked team. We can't do anything about this since the decisions were made so I guess it is moot, but I sure hope the upcoming playoffs choose better teams and opponents and all. It may be get much more confusing once that playoff system starts, at least in the beginning. If you get better understanding of it all, please post. Maybe then I can have a rudimentary knowledge to answer simple questions other fans ask me....ha.

#southernpatriots, I know some of the rules of the BCS but not all of them. I know certain bowls still have conference tie-ins. For example, the Sugar Bowl gets the SEC champion, unless said champion qualifies for the national championship game, in which case the next highest rated SEC team gets the invite. In years when the Rose Bowl is NOT the site of the national championship game, the Pac12 and Big10 champions go. The ACC champion always gets an Orange Bowl invite. Etc. Don't remember the specifics of the non-AQ (in this case NIU) having to be ranked 16th or higher in the final poll to get into a game. There's a second condition that has to apply for them to get a BCS bid, I think.

Bottom line: there's virtually no flexibility in the current system, and accordingly, you get a few 'dog' matchups. For example: Georgia deserved better. Actually, they deserved a BCS spot ahead of us. They beat us, and they came within 4 yards of playing for the title. It's like they got penalized for playing in the SEC Championship game, despite how well they played. That's not right.

florida727 (and blitz4848): I agree.

What happened to the matchups? Who chose this strange grouping of opponents. Like one poster asked what happened to the other 20 teams which ranked above the one chosen? Why wasn't one of those teams available for some of the more prominent bowls?

I'm with #blitz4848 on this. Whether you love the SEC or hate the SEC, the lineup of games #blitz proposed gives the blog sites and fans a lot to chatter about. Isn't that what college football should be about? Don't get me wrong, I'm genuinely happy for Northern Illinois fans. This is a HUGE deal for them. They've had a great year and they should be incredibly excited they 'busted' the BCS proverbial glass ceiling. But outside of DeKalb, IL, who's excited to see them play FSU? Same for Florida. Louisville? Really? They weren't even ranked as recently as last week!

I'm voting for the lineup #blitz4848 suggested. Of course, that and 50-cents and I can get a copy of USA Today :(

If you thought SC defense is goo, expect more of the same from LSU! Not gonna be pretty and LSU O-line will dominate Tiger "D".....anything less than letting up 70 points will be improvement for Clemson. Did you know Clemson has one of the top APR scores of all the colleges and universities. Now that is something I would be proud of. Congratulations to Clemson for that outstanding academic performance. Well done! The Gamecocker

I clicked on this thread planning on ripping the match-ups as the worst I can ever remember.

Then I read the comments and realized I'm not alone.

Lately there has been a lot of talk that the really stupid decisions that have been made over the past few years, are being made now, and are sure to be made in the near future is really screwing the pooch.

I think they are right.

College Football was absolutely thriving 3-5 years ago.

Now....

Now I have to listen to the talking head disinformation specialists tell me how great things are in order to not be disgusted on what these pot bellied, bald blowhards are doing to the game.

On the other hand, if you are the owner of a strip club, golf course, or extremely expensive steak house there is good news! The bcs administrators are coming to town with their limitless budgets!

What a joke these matchups are. Once again the cameras will pan the stadiums of the "who cares" games and you'll see no one in the stands... Once again the top rated SEC teams will be playing a bunch of sister teams while Oregon and K-state play each other. How about a Florida/Oregon matchup and a K-State/LSU matchup, at least these would be a little more challenging for the SEC, maybe even be exciting thru the 1st half...
There could have been some great matchups but somebody left their brain at home when they came up with this garbage schedule... there has to be a lot more money to be made using the nothing bowls for playoffs to get to a real champion. Georgia must be a 30-point favorite over Nebraska after Wisconsin undressed that nothing team...

What a lousy bowl schedule.
How about this one for US FANS thay pay the freight!!!!!

BCS--Notre Dame - Bama
Rose--Stanford - Georgia
Sugar--Florida - Oregon
Fiesta--K-State - LSU
Orange Bowl--South Carolina - FSU
Cotton Bowl--Texas A&M - Texas (The Aggies hate UT)
Capital One--Oklahoma - Nebraska (for old time sake)

These would be more watchable, even matches and a bonus for all the SEC and SEC haters is 6 head to head matchups that would give the fans lots to debate, blog and bitch about.

I say screw the conference alignments and how many per conference restrictions!!! The above matchups would fill the stadiums, pack the local hotels, have great TV ratings and all the host chamber of commerce people would be smiling.

Hell, the Oklahoma-Nebraska would pack Orlando to the gills and renew that old Thanksgiving Friday rivalry we all used to have on our "must see TV list.........

We need a a BOWL CZAR to appease us fans.....
