Packerbadger- since you like making generalizations about groups of people, I suppose this represents all UW grads, athletes, and women from Wisconsin in general.

And there is a B1G award named after her. By your narrow thinking, all B1G female athletes are represented by her as well.

Merry xmas, and maybe stop throwing stones.

You're fun Deb. Just put a quarter in you and and stand back and watch. lol! Btw, its the Refereelers. Steelers won four Super Bowls. Steelers and Refs won two. Most of what they say about the south is true....I currently live in it. I did play football in hs as a middle linebacker and we won the state championship my junior yr. I competed in another sport in college. I was recruited by a number of southern schools; but I didn't want to go to a racist, bigoted, intellectual vacuum.

A Steelers fan? What gave me away? It couldn't have been all those references I've made to being a Steelers fan LOL

Yes, as noted previously, I form opinions based on behavior, not where people are from or what teams they follow. Your bitter obsession with the SEC, bigoted stereotyping of all the people in the region, vulgarity, and cuckoo posts speak for themselves. Hmmm ... you're a former player? Perhaps you forgot to duck a few too many times. You poor thing.

Shut up woebegone. I'll be in Madison for xmas and would be happy to tell anything to your face. I own a business and employ people. You know NOTHING about me....get lost punk.

I see Deb, our sanctimonious hypocrite poster who says she judges no-one, but yet judges EVERYONE is back. You started your attacks on me because I dare state the facts that the SEC is a less educated conference; and thus its easier to field better football and basketball teams. You and normtide get are pretty sensitive over the academic issue; guess you've heard that quite a bit from others in the past. I guess the truth hurts, doesn't it? Get over yourself. I'm guessing you're a Steeler fan the way you complain. Btw, I've forgotten more than you'll ever know.

@angelheartsbuckeyes ...

If you scan this ridiculously long thread, you'll see some comments on the historic reasons Southerners pull for the conference when its teams play outside the SEC. And, of course, our internal rivalries are fierce. But you're right about the cyclical nature of the sport. I've posted many times about the pendulum swings in football. The SEC is a dominant conference right now--that doesn't necessarily mean we dominate any other specific conference, as you pointed out. However, the bitter, unprovoked, and volatile comments posted to SEC fans by some Big 10 fans--such as packerbadger--does suggest the SEC has rented space in his little pea brain.

As you noted, though, these things run in cycles. The Big 10, Pac-12, and ACC have dominated at various times in football history. One thing we all know--or should--is that the pendulum will swing again. That's why we should enjoy it when our teams are up ... but not get too comfortable. What goes up, must come down. ;)

You talk awful big behind a computer screen, but I can assure you, even at 63 years old, you would not have the guts to say anything to my face, like you think you have the right to say on a computer. Idiots like you, are a dime a dozen in the world, but you shouldn't try so hard to lead the way.
You don't even carry your own way in life. The reason you are the idiot you are is because you are so disappointed in your own inadequate life.
I really don't have anymore time to waste answer such a person that I really feel kind of pity for. Sorry your life is such a disappointment to you, but I am glad I don't live like you do.

To normtide: Lets talk about some of the SEC coaches.....
1. Bobby Petrino Arkansas
2. Hal Mumme Kentucky
3. Mike Price Alabama
4. Dennis Franchione Texas A&M
Good to see you live in a glass house and yet throw stones.

To Deb:
Thanks for not judging me you sanctimonious hypocrite. Theres lots of those down here. I bet you're one of those "hypochristians".

To woebegone:
Be gone already. Ask Santa for a spine because you obviously don't have one.

To angleheartbuckey:
As much as I like to kick OSU's azz, I still root for them and the other Big 10 teams in bowl games and games against other conferences. OSU is a good school. All Big 10 schools are good schools. The SEC has some good athletic teams; but when I lived up north, we joked about the "education" system they have compared to the other conferences. These conversations seem to come up more down here; but its more ACC. People in the SEC seem to be a bit hypersensitive when you bring up the academics.... seems SEC has inferiority complex. Buts its just like the Civil War; up north we never talked about it after my freshman yr in college, but they're still fighting it down here.

As a Buckeye fan I am sad to see ole BB go. We had a lot of fun at his expense and it was a pleasure beating him more often than not.

I personally think he is going to get crushed in the SEC -- not because it is so much better but because he is a mediocre coach.

I live in the South now and have since 1998. I have had this whole conference superiority conversation a few times. A few things; cfb is cyclical. The SEC is up right now -- no doubt. However, I would really like it if SEC fans (amother phenomenia that boggles the mind--I cheer for my TEAM not my region, but whatever) could comprehend the simple fact that they DO NOT DOMINATE THE B1G.

Not every school in the B1G is tOSU. The heads up record between the B1G and the SEC shows a slight lead -- nothing that would indicate complete domination.

Seriously, I pity you. You have to lie about who you are, what you do, and even try to impress people with your sorry life. The only way you could truly help out any group of people with your sour outlook on life and the way you act, is with your demise. You are right though, I will leave this blog for now, since the subject it was about was forgotten a long time ago, with an idiot like you posting on it. You are far from representing the good folks of your state, and your attitude I am sure makes people not even want to know you.

Are you still here? Good grief.

My, you have poor reading-comprehension skills for someone with a doctoral degree. I didn't say research grants aren't an indicator of a school's academic standing. I said the number of research grants awarded to an institution isn't determined by the graduation rate of its football team.

I don't judge people by their region of origin, the degrees they claim, or the football teams they support--and certainly not by the graduation rates of the football teams they support. I base my opinions on their behavior. Yours speaks volumes.

You don’t need sunscreen, just go swimming and you’ll get covered in oil! Btw, milk and cheese are good for you! Inbreeding isn’t.

So, you moved to the south for an $8/hour job? Or did the milking machine break up with you? Your post do nothing to support your SAT claims. Oh, and didn't the packers look good last year, but failed to win a playoff game?

Here is all you need to know about Wisconsin: your coach passed on coaching in the rose bowl, to move to NW Arkansas. Not because you wanted him gone, before him you had one 11 win session. One. Just look how it chapped you, when he left.

Just so you know, I have a degree in physics, so I am sorry to say, but you are not exclusive in the smarts department, but unlike you, I actually used my degree, but never felt the reason to feel I was so superior as to look down on other people. How long did you serve in the military? What job do you do or have you done that contributes to humanity? I would say the answer to the above questions is zero.
Be gone idiot. You are one of the few poor souls that value your opinion, in Wisconsin or any place else. Small people seek to bring others down to their level and I have no reason to sink to yours.

Grants are a pretty good indication of how well a school is academically Deb. If you do have any smart ones in Alabama, they're either foreign kids or kids from out of state. Your state is either 49th or 50th in high school academics. Did you actually go to college? If you did, did you compete in NCAA Divison I athletics? I did both. Mr. Hodag is right, Bielema has zero credibility. Maybe he'll find a hot co-ed and buy a motorcycle too....

"It’s a bit like your spouse walking in and saying she’s leaving you to marry your brother. "
They're used to that down south. If a couple is married in Alabama and gets a divorce in Arkansas.....are they still brother and sister?

Deb said:
constantly dragging academics into these football discussions, such as the hiring of Bret Bielema, is idiotic. This should never have been an argument in the first place. And I’m sure if the Big 10 had won the last six national titles, it wouldn’t have been. "

Um, they're called "Student Athletes". Academics is part of being a student athlete.

Razorback fans:
When Bielema bolted, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel took a poll: Will you miss BB?
Two-thirds said "no". This is a guy that went(and lost) to the Rose Bowl and three Big 10(or Big 14 or Little 14, whatever you want to call it) titles.
You will have an exciting team that rarely can win the big games.

Heartbreak will become your friend.

To give you a bit of the integrity of BB, he never so much as informed Barry Alvazez he was even thinking of leaving. He just walked in and said he was hired at Arkansas. It's a bit like your spouse walking in and saying she's leaving you to marry your brother. Alvarez picked him out from a group of other candidates and stuck by him when it was obvious he wasn't ready to be a head coach. That's the thanks you get from BB.

We won many games with BB there, but do you get the sense that most Wisconsin fans think another coach would be preferable?

I don't know when you tripped in, dear, but both normtide and I have been making intelligent, football-based comments on this blog for years. However, we do reserve the right to talk back to fools who come on for the sole purpose of slamming our intellect, our history, our religion, and anything else they can think of to damn us as a collective simply because SEC football teams perform well on the field. That, my friend, is what I consider "mouthing off."

The graduation rate of players on the football team does not determine the total academic performance of a university much less the total amount of research grants given to a school ... which is why constantly dragging academics into these football discussions, such as the hiring of Bret Bielema, is idiotic. This should never have been an argument in the first place. And I'm sure if the Big 10 had won the last six national titles, it wouldn't have been. A good standard of quality of education in a given conference or individual school is to determine the number and total amount of research grants given to the schools or school. That should end the argument. Or not.

Hard to decide whether to laugh or shake your head at these guys. They have no idea what the SEC's academic rankings are. Half our schools rank higher than half the Big 10 schools. But it makes them feel better about their football irrelevance to troll our threads and tell us how stupid Southerners are. Then when we give it back to them, they go off half-cocked and start ranting like lunatics. Yeah, Tyrann Mathieu ... one poor kid who grew up in squalor has had trouble adjusting. Clearly he is the posterchild for all the SEC ... just as Jerry Sandusky is the posterchild for all the Big 10. Right.

I think pbadger needs some Xanax.

Somewhat Educated Conference is what it is. Everyone knows the academics there are at the bottom of the barrel; thus they can keep good, illiterate athletes in school. The FACTS show that the SEC is the least educated conference.Thats the point I I've been making. Its a lot easier to be good at athletics when you don't have to go to school or actually take time out of your day to study. Obviously 100% of the student athletes don't fall into that category; but your conference sure has a helluva lot more of them than the others. You jumped all over my sh!t for stating Mr. Honey Badger was a friggen idot loser who's had more chances and potential and blew it. Guess what? I was right...again! I went to school and worked out with these guys at their level. I know them and how they operate.

For someone who says that they don't judge, you sure judge a lot!! Typical of a sanctimonious hypocrite. I bet you're in church thumping your bible every Sunday too. I have the finesse of a freight train. If that runs over you...good! :)

I went to school and worked out with these guys at their level. I know them and how they operate.

For someone who says that they don’t judge, you sure judge a lot!! Typical of a sanctimonious hypocrite. I bet you’re in church thumping your bible every Sunday too. I have the finesse of a freight train. If that runs over you…good!

Not quite sure what all that was about. I'm just talking smack with the guy who keeps ragging the SEC.

@packerbadgers ...

Honey, I write with tongue firmly in cheek most of the time. Smack to you is just blathering nonsense. I use a little more finesse. If that confuses you ... good :)

"You’re spouting BS when you say that research shows prayer has no effect."
----------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I should clarify. People praying for other people has been proven to have no effect when the person being prayed for doesn't know it.

I also sense you have no sense of humor. You must be an accountant or chemist. Yes, Star was a good qb, but wouldn't even be a back-up today; and sucked as a coach. Favre was my all time favorite before going south; and Reggie White was more responsible for resurecting the Pack.

I'm a happy go lucky fan. Packers rated the best pro sports franchise in all of sports; and a lot of that has to do with their happy fans drinking beer and eating brats at Lambeau. You are a bump on a log. Paterno was a legend until it was revealed he allowed more little boys to raped on Penn States campus which kind of wipes out the previous sixty yrs of accomplishments. Football to me is something to talk smack about, laugh and have a good time. For you its all serious and seems to consume your life.
