What’s to rationalize. Needed coach got coach. Instead, lets talk about how Bielema’s taking less dollars than he could have to pay top dollar for assistants. Something Alvarez wouldn’t or couldn’t do at Wisconsin. That’s the main reason he left. When are you knowledgable people going to report stated facts.

Listening to BA’s press conference a couple of things come to mind:

Arkansas did not follow protocol and get permission to talk to BB.
Information that BB had taken the Arkansas job leaked back to UW before it was officially announced. The players found out first through the media that their coach was leaving and not from their head coach.
If you remember, back round 1970, Bobby Knight was the head coach at Army and had interviewed for and accepted the UW basketball HC position. Info leaked back to Army that Knight had taken the UW job before it was officially announced. The end result was the he called UW and because the info was leaked, turned down the job.
Like Knight or not, he has integrity.
This seems to be what both the the University of Arkansas and BB lack.

What kind of guy can’t wait until AFTER the bowl game to announce?

a school thats worried about recruiting and doesnt want to wait until january to announce a new coach while every other school tells those recruits they have no coach etc etc

its called business–have u not been watching the landscape of college football in terms of coaches the last 10 years

You have to consider perspectives.

Wisconsin apparently didn’t want him to hang around and coach in the bowl game since he’s leaving for the Arkansas job.

Arkansas is just looking out for their own interests. Waiting for an entire month for him to coach the bowl game for Wisconsin is a very low priority when compared to the need for him to assemble a staff and get them out on the recruiting trail. The Bamas, LSUs, and Floridas are not going to sit by idly. They’re advancing, and the longer Arkansas waits, the harder it will be to catch back up.

So, would it make any sense to keep it quiet that you’re changing jobs….just to coach for a school that no longer wants you to coach for them?

I’m not a Wisconsin or Big10 fan but (no disrespect to Stanford) I’d like to see Barry coach them to an upset win in the Rose Bowl. It would be a great ‘feel good’ story. It would also take at least some of the sting out of losing their coach. In truth, Alvarez might not do a lot of “actual” coaching; it’ll largely be his assistants and mostly the OC and DC running the show, but it’ll be good to see him on the sidelines once more for Wisconsin fans who obviously hold him in high regard… as they should. Good luck Wisconsin fans.

Bielema is a smart man and can see the writing on the wall for the now totally irrelevant Big10. The Big 10 can now only compete well in female sports. Best they disband football and let real men play that game.

Who the hell else would? It sure as hell shouldn’t be Bielema. Brent had a nice tenure here but for him to think they’d let him stick around to coach the bowl game is absolutely laughable.
