Rutgers will not be a doormat in thr B1G. RU has a better football program than Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota, and as good as Northwestern & Mich St. RU has played these schools since 2000 and have been very competitive. I agree that Mizzou would have been a fine addition but I’m happy they are in the SEC!

Maryland and Rutgers are doormats. Now GT and Virginia? B1G what the hell are you doing to the league? Go after Kansas and KState geographically and competitively they make sense. Should have grabbed Mizzou why you had the chance. Delaney you blew it.

@getyourownname, I believe you are 100% correct. Maryland has not sued the ACC, or even filed an answer to the ACC’s suit. From what I’ve been led to understand, they may not have to file their own suit. North Carolina law would seem to vastly favor Maryland’s position. Sure, they’ll pay something, but not $50MM.

Agree 100%! The North Carolina power structure is lead by the “talking head”, John Swofford. As you probably know, he is a former Tarheel BB player under Dean Smith. He is lead by Coach K and Roy Williams. This power base has always been in NC and always will be. I would love for the football schools (FSU, GT, Va Tech, & Clemson) to bolt for another conference. They could go to the Big 12 but other than Va Tech, I doubt any will be in the SEC! And you know that is where Clemson and FSU wish to be. But getting back to Swofford, the $50MM fee is outrageous and I doubt it will stand-up in court. But, that is EXACTLY what Coach K and Roy Williams want. The ACC has failed as a 50/50 partner with football. It is and always will be a 75% basketball conference on Tobacco Road. If UVa and and Ga Tech are concerned, they will be much better in the Big Ten. FSU messed up by not joinging the SEC when they were invited in 1991. This left the door open for THE University of South Carolina Fighting Gamecocks! Now SC is financially set and growing academically and athletically. The Seminoles are in poor financial health and reeling. Clemson is in the Upstate “Jackin Jimmy” as the expression goes!

You do not get out much do you? GT turns out highly sought after engineers who have disposable income and alumni chapters throughout the US-some of the key demographics of potential advertisers on existing or potential conference networks. Thinking that this entire conference realignment mess is based on the (recent) success or lack thereof on the field by any particular school shows a lack of understanding of economic fundamentals.

As a long-time fan of Big East (R.I.P.) basketball, there’s not really much left for me to do except enthusiastically cheer on the demise of the conference that started this mess, and the despicable orchestrator of it all, John Swofford (and by proxy ESPN).

Don’t even really care what that means for the remains of the BE— SEC, B1G, Big XII, please get to work and rip the ACC to shreds, make that a$$ hole Swofford get a taste of his own medicine until he is held in the same rock bottom esteem as John Marinatto.

GT, UVA, FSU, and Clemson (among others) will all be in new conferences by the begining of the 2014 season.
