Predictions 101 — Capital One Bowl

SEC Championship - Alabama v Georgia Getty Images

No. 6 Georgia vs. No. 23 Nebraska
Tues., Jan. 1 – 1 p.m. ET, ABC
Orlando, Fla. – Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium

Georgia had designs on the BCS Championship Game. Nebraska believed it was going to the Rose Bowl.

Georgia fell four yards short.

Nebraska needed, um, a little more than that.

In a result that still strains belief, the Cornhuskers (10-3) were embarrassed by Wisconsin 70-31 at the Big Ten Championship Game, sending the red-clad masses from Pasadena to Orlando in a nanosecond.

Obviously, it’s time to regroup. Georgia (11-2) was feisty against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, falling just short, 32-28.

So now it’s a battle of wills. Who wants this one more? It’s a joke that Georgia isn’t playing in a BCS bowl, but that’s the system. The Bulldogs have a 12-win season at stake – no joke there – and junior QB Aaron Murray wants to deliver that. Murray might not need to pass 40 times. Nebraska showed zero ability to stop the run against Wisconsin.

Side note: Nebraska AD and legendary coach Tom Osborne will retire after this game. He was on staff when Nebraska defeated Georgia 45-6 at the 1969 Sun Bowl, the only other football meeting between these programs.

Opening point spread: Georgia by 8 1/2

The pick: Georgia 38, Nebraska 28

This is pitiful. Beyond pitiful. UGA deserves much more than this.

We all know BCS are idiots and the system is inherently flawed. Morphing into a playoff system will not be easy and will reveal many flaws there also. Other than expanding the playoff teams to at least 8, and not giving any stupid restrictions to the number of teams from the same conference, I am not sure what may be needed.

One thing is true…the Georgia Bulldogs will play this game. Inside I know the players are angry and are looking for some form of vendication. The Bulldogs will score first and score last and score much in between. Their defense will stimy the Cornhuskers. I think the package that UGA has will bring a nightmare to Nebraska. UGA will eat the corn and spit it out.

Nebraska will not score 28. Maybe 14…maybe!

Final score The Georgia Bulldogs 45-13.

I don’t think Nebraska can stop UGA’s run game, but I am not sure how they do on pass defense. The simple fact is, UGA came within possibly 15 seconds of going to the big game, and lost by four points. Nebraska got bombed by a team that had 5 losses so it should be pretty easy to figure out, who will be heavily favored in this game. You will not see 70 points put up on them by UGA though, as Coach Richt is too classy a guy to allow his team to do that to an opponent. I would noit be surprised to see 45 points though, as he will want his seniors to get as much playing time as possible, not only to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and to thank them for doing a great job this year. Nebraska will face a much more balanced and probably more talented offense than they did against Wisconsin, so a blowout is not out of the question.

Agreed with most of the post above. It seems crazy to me, that UGA was punished for playing in their conference championship game! However, if the ref’s get the pass interference call right, Bama wins by 18.

That said, UGA will KILL Nebraska. For all the reasons listed.

    UGA – 54 (statement)
    Nebraska – 17

Another evisceration… no… emasculation in the making.

    59-13 – Georgia

Bo is looking for a job very soon.

    New AD, new coach?

It doesn’t seem to me that Bo gets a good press, deservedly, I think.

He was a great DC at LSU, but he is in over his head at HC.

With all dye respect to Southern Patriots & the homeristic SEC ilk. I’ve seen Georgia fans speak more intelligently about the upcoming game. They’ve said stated that Martinez is the type of QB that gives the Bulldogs fits. And quite possibly Georgia might not have its collective heart in this game, it’s been known to happen…..

I’m not looking for a Nebraska win here, but I recall a game three years ago where so many so called experts said Nebraska had no business being on the field with. Turned out to be a hell of a game. So before all you know it alls on the same level as Colin Cowterd give is your unique prespective, let the game get played…

I believe the article is titled, “Predictions 101”, and that’s what the folks for the most part on here are doing. Just as you surely are entitled to your opinion, so too, are fans of the SEC and Georgia.

Huskers fan here, but with that said they will get killed in this game. Their only hope is Taylor Martinez and that’s a scary option lately. If he’s the solid Martinez, he candrop 200 each on passing and rushing. But if he’s not, he can drop 4 fumbles and 4 picks, My guess is the latter as Nebraska is playing like they’ve quit. If they get blown out in this game and it’s similar to the Wisconsin game, then Bo should lose his job. He won’t, but he should. Someone needs to tell him that hiring his friends as coordinators isn’t always the best idea. With all that said, final score is 49-17 Georgia. And it will be over before the half with Georgia calling off the Dawgs. Pun intended.

I hope UGA loses….even though they won’t. All of my friends I went to highschool with have turned into complete arrogant pricks who think they’re better than everyone else since going there.
