A lateral move for a program that HAD so much promise. The reason Jim Leavitt had this team in better shape than Holtz did is that he treated it like a d-1 team in a BCS conference that had every chance to compete in recruiting, coaching and on the field. Then Holtz comes in and acts like he’s still coaching ECU by putting a subpar product on the field and treating the job like a stepping stone. USF has its advantages in recruiting because of the area but Holtz didn’t build on the progress made. If a name like Butch Davis or Petrino is attached to this job, you pounce, because in small sample sizes, you know it works.

apparently most of you don’t know sh*t about taggart…he’s from tampa and has a stellar reputation there…he knows the area, has hc experience, young, passionate and for crying out loud he has led wku to multiple bowls!!

So the Bull$pit Bulls decided to hire a 16-20 Div II coach – this proves that the Bulls powers that be are “CHEAP-CHEAP-CHEAP” like the Rays so this guy fits their pocketbook. “HOPE” is what they bought with this hire, NOT a viable head coach. I am not a fan of this hire but will have to HOPE for the best as I did while the ID-10-t Leavitt and the even worse Holtz were in charge of the football program. Speaking of HOPE – why not Danny? Because he wouldn’t be “CHEAP-CHEAP-CHEAP” like Willie.

What the Bulls do not need from Taggart is another version of “Mr Mediocrity” Jim Leavitt; teasing the fans every year by winning early then watching them collapse down the stretch as Leavitt got nuttier and nuttier. At least Taggert is a proven winner (at his current level) but it would seem to me he would have been a better hire for the University of Tampa’s program – and NOT the USF Bulls who proclaim they want to be competitive then hire the likes of Holtz and now Taggart.

Until the Bulls start winning the recruiting war in Tampa Bay and get some of the quality players to stay home and play their college ball here, they will continue to be lucky to be a .500 program. They can’t compete in their current configuration with the Gators, Miami Sugarcanes and FSU because the USF facilities are just above non-existent. If a kid visits FSU one weekend and the Bulls the next – hands down he’ll go to Florida State because the Bulls can’t compete with the traditions, facilities and big time coaching staff that the Noles have.

The Bulls could have hired Jim Tressel and in 3 years been competitive for a long time. Instead, Judy Genshaft and the AD go “CHEAP-CHEAP-CHEAP” and choose Taggart. Maybe they are they planning to take the program back to 1-AA to get some wins?

In light of the Colorado firing, is it racism that Butch Davis was passed up for Taggart?
Woe is me…the liberal Disney/ESPN/ABC and their political agenda in sports is so annoying.

Before you start dismantling the new hire, think for a second. How many of you HOPED that the last guy would perform miracles because he was the son of that blathering, lisping old fool on espn?
Willie Taggart is nothing short of a strict disciplinarian and expects nothing but the best from his players. Great hire USF!!

I hope he knows his biggest problem is discipline. He’s got a bunch of guys that all want to be millionaires and they tend to forget what they are taught, with apparently no repercussions, so they just do it again. They need to be taught that there are just certain times of the game that you DON’T make mistakes! Good luck Willie!
