I was in Houston last weekend visiting my son, we went to see the North Shore/Lamar regional championship game. Texas certainly has a ton of
quality football players. I saw tens of people that I have known all my life from SEC schools. I counted 9 schools, (The entire SEC West and 3 from the SEC East) based on acquaintances seen. No, they weren't coaches.

Point is, having Texas A&M in the SEC is a HUGE addition. Take the obvious reason, TV market $ for TV contracts, out. A&M opens up recruiting in all sports, men and women, to the entire conference. The SEC already obtains great quality
from our current conference, but now you open up Texas? Christmas is coming early this year.

Adding A&M was pure genius and I guess we can thank Deloss Dodds for sending A&M our way.

Did Jones kid from Sealy commit to A&M? If so, Having Evans on one side and him on the other isn't going to allow defenses to play eight in the box. 2 deep safeties against Johnnie Manziel and the A&M running game? No wonder,
Nick Saban is now looking to go to the NFL and leave my beloved Al-la-bam-ah
(apologies, Keith!)

There weren't many LSU fans that were close to the program that thought Russel was going anywhere and very little surprise when he flopped.

He didn't know the playbook and improvised a lot. How the scouts didn't know this is a mystery to a lot of us.

Johnny Heisman had a Heisman year and deserves the accolade.

You realize that we were 2 missed 30+ yd fgs from winning the west this year, and at least a shot at going to the NCG.

Aggies lost by 5 to LSU and the kicker missed two sub 40 yds FGs and an XP. After the way that game started, I know LSU fans had to be ecstatic to get out of there w/ a W.

As far as Te'o goes... he's a good player, maybe even great. He is greating great grades from the pro scouts. My issue is, he didn't have a Heisman season. You need to have highlight real material to win the Heisman and he just doesn't fit the bill. Making a routine tackle that you're supposed to make, may make you a good player, doesn't make you a Heisman winner.

seamuso0317 -

It was humor you big dummy. He's from Hawaii, Lost 15 pounds to essentially become a big safety, wears a golden helmet and is soon to be the biggest bust in nd history, surpassing the great (only in the minds of nd fans) brady medicine woman quinn.

Remember how he was going to expose the LSU/SEC defense in the sugar bowl and go on to a hall of fame career in the pro's? yeah no one else does either. LSU lit his butt up, he went on to be a bust in the nfl and later replaced by Tebow.

#5 could have a 5 year career in the nfl if he learns how to cover from the free safety spot, because he is not going to line up and play in the NFL as a LB. too slow, too small, no ferociousness when he tackles, the few times he actually makes a tackle that is.

I think as UT falls in Texas LSU can make in roads again. Right now you have taken our spot in the state and soon we will take theirs, just like we took yours.

The Aggies are KILLING it in rrecruiting right now. The landed one of the best players in the state on Monday that they took right under UT nosem and today they landed the guy who may be THE best player in the state for 2014 whom they snatch from the claws of your Tigers. (By the way... the Tigers are dying in Texas right now, by last count, they have gotten 0 commitments out of Texas for 15 offers)

The Aggies are STACKED with talent for the next few years. If we can get Manziel to stick around to 2015... might be our year.

I imagine next year will be a small step back... 9 wins. Problem is in 2014 and 15 the schedule gets tougher... No UGA, UF, or SC next year...

There are 4 reasons that the lb from nd was even on that stage to begin with.

1. notre lame is 12-0 obiviolously someone on that team deserved to be on the stage.
2. he was the best "player" player on the team. Looking at his stats or lack there of should bring a tear to the eye of any REAL college football fan
3. This was a very down year for the Heisman.
4. He battled through a double "tragedy". Now I don't mean to make light of what he went through losing both his GF and Grandmother in the same week, but having a personal lost or two does not make you the best player in college football.

Yes he may be a great leader, inspirational leader what have you but based on numbers alone he was not the best defensive player this year.

Hell I think Clowney, or J.Jones would have been better players to put on that stage if you had to have someone form the defensive side of the ball.

I will be the first to admit I didn't see A&M being able to pull off what they did this year.

I watched the florida game and in the second half went yep about what i expected. I really have a bad feeling with this A&M team as it pertains to the rest of the SEC especially the WEST.

They had a better season than ut, will be playing their old conference bully, during a prime time bowl game, in their home state, in the biggest play ground stadium, in one of the most fertile HS recruiting grounds in the nation, with the ability to say they beat a NC contender, play in the toughest conference in the nation, which puts more high quality nfl talent in the nfl every year.

The HS kids they recruit will be told not only will they play at least 2 games during their career in Death Valley, BAMA, and on the plains but they will also play in front of over 100K at Tenn, go to the swamp and the hedges, but they will also play the best players in college football.

Wanna make it to the next level we offer a better chance than the orange and white down in austin. when the money from the bowl games and espn starts to flow in to college station and they up grade their facilities, look out Texas, SEC West, SEC and the lame fans of el notre lame-o.

just My Humble Opinion.

You won't get anywhere with the ND apologists with that argument. It's been tried... over and over again.

Domers are a bit more touchy feely. "He played inspired defense!", "He was a great leader!", "He led his team to 12-0!"

The problem is, you're from the SEC, where they win titles, and you're used to seeing tangible production from your star players.

The truth is Ryan Shazier had much more productive season from the MLB position and also led his team to 12-0, but nobody even knows who he is...

Lets put this to bed right now.

Yes Taiou or however the hell you spell his name is a decent linebacker but he made his name for interceptions and for wearing a gold helmet.

Since people on here love to look at Grad rates for the SEC, looks use stats to crush Matti as have earned the Heisman.

BTW these numbers come from:
http://web1.ncaa.org/

Total Tackles ranked 59th in the nation for FBS.
- There were 4 players from the SEC ranked higher than him.
- This is a Linebackers Job, make tackles, and based on stats from the NCAfreakingA 58 other players were better.

SOLO tackles -
There were 94 players ranked and MATJCKHC was not on the list. Last I checked Making tackles was a LB's job. If you can't rank nationally for solo tackles then maybe we should have sent the kid from UAB who had 90 solo tackles for the year.

Tackles for loss
100 spots on the list and Nope not on the list. The top 3 spots were 1. SEC 2. SEC 3. Some kid from buffalo.

Forced fumbles
A freaking DL from his own team forced more fumbles than him. This tells me that he was not a devastating tackler from a position that well tackles.

Fumble recoveries
well at least me made the list on this one. He recovered let me check..... 2 (cue the bob ucker line from Major league at this point.) this tells me he wasn't around the ball when some one actually put it one the ground to begin with.

Sacks -
Well the NCAA ranked everyone who had at least 5 sacks. Guess what he wasn't on it.

So what have you notre lame apologist learned, probably nothing, but the rest of the world learned that your boy had he not been wearing a golden helmet AND suffered a double tragedy on the same week would have been allowed within 100 miles of the state of new york, let alone get an invitation to the freaking Heisman award ceremony.

SOLO tackles –
There were 94 players ranked and MATJCKHC was not on the list. Last I checked Making tackles was a LB’s job. If you can’t rank nationally for solo tackles then maybe we should have sent the kid from UAB who had 90 solo tackles for the year.

He recovered let me check….. 2 (cue the bob ucker line from Major league at this point.) this tells me he wasn’t around the ball when some one actually put it one the ground to begin with.

How stupid are all yall “manziel for heisman” people going to look when his numbers are half this good next season?

----------------------------------------------------

Just a quick FYI for you: I checked, it's right there on the trophy they gave Manziel, I saw it with my own eyes, it reads "2012". I'm not 100% sure, but I've been told that when they hand out the trophy next year, it more than likely will read "2013". Again, not confirmed, only a rumor, so if next year's trophy does in fact also say "2012" on it, then you have a very valid argument, and I'll be the first one to support you. Keep me posted, okay? Oh yeah, by the way, 37-26. Just a friendly reminder.

If this clown blows his next three years, the Heisman will officially be a joke. If it isn’t already.

Since it's obvious that you two are not smart enough to figure this out on your own, I'll help you.

The Heisman Trophy is about one single year. It's not a lifetime achievement award. It doesn't matter what he does the rest of his football career. He had the best season in college football this season.

Te'o is a great player, but Manziel had the better year. It's not even close, if you look at it objectively.

You're the one who posted that those stats came from 2001. And I have no idea what team you support or your reason for slamming SEC schools at every opportunity. Your reasons are your own, but don't expect the rest of us to respect or appreciate it.

We've spent our lives having to live down ridicule from fools who like to pat themselves on the back and claim they're intellectually superior simply because they were born north of the Mason-Dixon. We know it takes a special kind of idiot to believe IQ is determined by the patch of soil your mother is living on when she gives birth. But we have to put up with it anyway. We understand the North has produced just as many bigots, know the Klan's membership reached its highest numbers in Illinois, and remember that Boston schools didn't integrate until more than a decade after ours. But no matter how much we as individuals may have worked for civil rights causes, we still have to put up with morons on blogs calling us racists because they're pissed that their teams can't beat ours on a football field.

We know the historical socioeconomic obstacles our universities have had to overcome in order to compete with schools from other regions, and that the graduation rates among our athletes have been steadily increasing along with our schools' overall academic rankings. But while some of our schools rank right alongside the Big 10 schools, others still lag despite all the improvements they've made. We're proud of how far our schools have come, but know more work needs to be done. But we still have to put up with boobs who aren't man enough to own their losses on the field so they divert the subject to graduation rates--which has nothing to do with FOOTBALL.

So if you are a South Carolina fan and not just another Big 10 hater and all these off-topic academic posts are some bizarre kind of SEC self-flagellation rather than Big 10 smack ... please just seek therapy and leave the rest of us in peace. Thanks.

What if??? I can what if you to death??

What if Manti Te'o played on an undefeated Ohio St. team?? What if any of a number of VERY close games went the other way for ND?

If Manziel didn't beat Bama, he doesn't win the Heisman... But if A&M goes 6-6 and BEATS Bama, he still doesn't win the Heisman. But the fact is... He did beat Bama, he was on a 10 win SEC team, and he is deserving of the Heisman.

Truth is, commentators on his first game (nationally televised vs Florida) at halftime said this guy might win the Heisman he was so good. He won the weekly Walter Camp award twice. He was on sportscenter after the Arkansas win and the La Tech win. and then yes... the Bama win pushed him close to the top. He still needed Klein to falter, which he did the next week against, statistically, one of the 5 worst defenses in CFB.

Manti Te'o was NEVER the front runner for the Heisman. Not once during the whole season.

Front Runners:
Matt Barkley
Geno Smith
Colin Klein
Johnny Manziel

Like more than half of you with your comments above, the Heisman selection this year is quite a disappointment. Before the Alabama game, Johnny was just 'another name' amongst a tribe of great QBs throughout the country. After that game, Johnny was 'puffed up' like the nation's chief Pillsbury doughboy QB for CFB. What if he & A&M had NOT won that game? Would Johnny still have received much fame & publicity? I sincerely doubt it. So, many of us are not happy with this year's 'weak' selection of finalists. Normally, there are at least five finalists. Why they've chosen a freshman for this award, surprises thousands of us. Many QBs, and Running back upperclassmen were more worthy of this award - we don't have to name the names - they're obvious to all. Comments?

First and foremost... Congrats to Johnny Manziel. He had a great season, broke records and was a virtual highlight reel. Everything the Heisman should be. No offense to Te'o or Klein who also had deserving seasons but I as well as voters feel that Manziel had the best individual season in CFB.

ND fans that think Manziel shouldn't have won because he lost two games need to petition the Heisman Trust to revoke Tim Brown's '87 Heisman since the Irish lost 3 games before the trophy was handed out and their bowl game.

A&M is already reaping the rewards from this. They will have a top 5 recruiting class after RSJ signs today and possibly top 3 if Hoza Scott signs on Wed.

I imagine the Aggies will be in a really good spot to compete for a national title in 2014 or 2015.

Watch how easy this is:

HATERS PROFILES
Manziel - only 5 TDs and 4 INTS against the 5 ranked teams he faced
Te'o - did not lead the nation in any one statistical category
Klein - lost to an unranked Baylor team

FAN-OF-THEIRS PROFILES
Manziel - beat Alabama, is a human highlight film
Te'o - inspirational leader of nation's only undefeated team
Klein - statistical monster, accounted for 69% of team's offense

Face it. Anyone that wants to 'hate' because they disagree with the result, will. Anyone that likes the result will defend it. Anyone can make an argument for their favorite. I like what one post said: regardless, Manziel does, in fact, have the trophy and forever more will be known as a "Heisman Trophy Winner".

Seamus,

No fusion here. Te'o is an AVERAGE player on a questionable team playing in the National Championship game. Anything else is pure bovine feces from the ND SID. Name one category in the defensive FBS stats that Te'o led or excelled in?

Bueller? Bueller?

That's what I thought crickets....

Te'o was an average MLB last year for ND and is only a national focus because of personal situations and ND's rise in the polls. Tell me, would Te'o even be in discussion if ND was 8-4? Answer, no.

Don't fall for the faded ND Heisman machine.

No fusion here. Te’o is an AVERAGE player on a questionable team playing in the National Championship game. Anything else is pure bovine feces from the ND SID. Name one category in the defensive FBS stats that Te’o led or excelled in?

Klein committed the sin of losing late in the year to a sub 500 team in Baylor. His game performance was substandard. Politics had nothing to do with the Heisman. Manziel had 4600 yds in total offense with 43 touchdowns. Klein paled in comparison.

As to the two games, Florida and LSU, two teams ranked above TAMU in the TOP TEN rankings, was a REDSHIRT freshman initial games. Sumlin admitted he did not have over half the offense installed when TAMU played Florida. They lost by three points.

TAMU missed two makable field goals against LSU, TAMU lost two games to very good opponents.

When I watched TAMU play Alabama in Denny Bryant Stadium, TAMU can play with anybody in the country and beat them. They did it to us on our field when we were ranked #1, and Manziel is a very special player who I wish nothing but the best.
I welcome TAMU to the SEC and thank Texas for opening up Texas for the SEC to
recruit in all sports.

The Cotton Bowl should be fun.

Just another thing that's wrong with college football. He was not the best player this year but if your from a sec team you will win. He forgot to show up for the second half of two games. Klein was the obivous best player but the politics always win out. This diminishes the Heisman Trophy Award. The Sooners will put him in his place come Jan. 1st. Go Sooners!

I watch "debates" every Saturday afternoon. It is called football as Andy Griffin described it.

I never knew a university's chemistry department to fill an a class room much less a stadium.

As to graduation rates, sure kids are used to fill the stadiums. Is it the University's fault if the kid goes pro or if the kid transfers when his coach leaves? Is it the University's fault that the kid fails to take advantage of the educational opportunity presented to the kid?

No, you want to complain on college graduation rates at the END of the process. Why not complain that little Te'o is socially promoted at the tax payers expense in grade school, middle school and HS when everyone knows little Te'o can't read or write. Why because the school districts want federal dollars.

It isn't the University that failed the kid. It was the local school district that failed the kid.

Interesting comparison

Which MLB would you want on your team? Senior season stats

MLB#1 wasn't invited to the Heisman award ceremony.

147 Tackles
20 Tackles for loss
4 Ints
4 Forced fumbles
1 TD

MLB #2 invited to the Heisman award ceremony.

103 Tackles
5.5 Tackles for loss
7 Ints
0 forced fumble
0 TD's.

Shows just how bad T'eo performance this past football season actually was. He did not lead in any
defensive stats nationally, yet was touted as the best college football player. If it wasn't for ND rising in the polls this year, T'eo would have toiled in total obscurity.

Manziel deserved the award AND Manziel earned it. Ten years from now no one will even remember T'eo was second.
