put yourself in BB’ s shoes. if your employed and someone approaches you and offers you a 30% pay increase what would make you think you had an obligation to give your current employer more than a standard see us later? I say you would owe them Jack…I seems to me if someone is offering you more money then your current employer was under paying you.

Kept it to himself? The whole country knows UW doesn’t have the money to pay assistants. There is no secrets. Wisconsin fans are mad because he went to the SEC. Nothing her could have done was going to ease the ass pain they are feeling. After hearing how the rose bowl is bigger then the bcs title game, seeing a coach skip it for the 7th or 8th best sec job makes me laugh. That’s what this is, another slap in the face to the b1g. Adding rutgers and Maryland shows you no longer want to be competitive.

Bilema displayed some real scumbaggery the way he handled his departure. He went a step further to douchbaggery when he took a shot at UW for their handling of his assistants & their pay. He could’ve & should’ve kept that to himself.

Bama won the national title in 92, in fact they was much better than uw, when Stallings was coach. Barry was a decent coach, but before Brett, you had one 11 win season. In fact Barry as an AD had way to heavy of a hand.

Here is food for thought. Look at bowl wins/games/record from 93-Alvarez’ last year as Wisconsin coach. You can’t say Bama had a better program then, then Wisconsin did. Just goes to show there is ups and downs. Wisconsin isn’t a solid job with potential to compete every year at a high level. Bielema was just dragging them down.

I know to SEC folks, Bielema looks like a good hire. But look back at his losses. He didnt lose because of talent he lost close games (not all but most) by being out coached and calling time outs when he shouldn’t. If you settle for mediocrity then Bielema is the coach for you. If your all for a down year or two and then really compete at a high level then Bielema is not your guy.

What incentive can you put in the coach’s contract? If you charge him a $1,000,000 fee for leaving, Arkansas will just foot the bill. It is like these schools jumping conferences. If the money makes sense, they’re gone no matter what.

I’d bet Bielema asked for more money to pay his assistants and Alvarez said no. Once you shoot down something like that, you are on notice that your coach may not be thrilled with his current job.

Alvarez hand picked Bielema to be his successor, which is quite an honor in itself, considering where Bielema was prior to this. He trusted the entire program to him and I believe thought he would be there for many years to come.

So, this is how Bielema pays him back?… by taking another job without even consulting Alvarez? what a unprofessional thing to do, not to mention a slimy.

How many coaches recruit players every year, only to leave those kids high and dry within a year or two when the coach runs off to another school for more money or a better conference?

Truthfully, I’m surprised that it took until now for Alvarez to think about incorporating something like this into a coach’s contract. Is he really that naive to think a coach isn’t going to look to improve his income and/or hierarchy in coaching circles? You can argue the merits of “coaching in the SEC” all you want, or whether or not Wisconsin is a stepping stone v. a destination, but anyone that thinks ALL coaches are destined to stay at one school as long as Paterno did, or Woody Hayes did, (the list of examples is endless, John Wooden in basketball, etc.) is delusional. Besides, isn’t the old mantra “coaches get hired to be fired”? Why would an AD think the inverse isn’t also true?

The point is the coaches have had the upper hand for far too long and it is time a university gets this under control. They need to be held to the contract they sign. This is like players who have to be released from a contract to sign another.

I cannot believe there are so many bleeding heart coach lovers out there. If the school wants to get rid of them, the coach has to be compensated before they agree to go. However, these coaches break contracts like they are nothing. It is unethical and plain wrong! Since coaches are not to be trusted about their intentions, they need to be held liable to honor a contract. It is the common basis for many things done in this country.

They are like thieves in the night and under the cover of darkness making covert deals. What kind of example are they showing to their players? Alverez says Loyalty matters. Appropriateness matters. Your word matters.
