Buffs reportedly lands SJSU’s MacIntyre as head coach

Finally, Colorado’s long — and embarrassing — coaching search nightmare is over.  Reportedly.

A few days after being shunned by Butch Jones, both Pete Thamel of SI.com and Kyle Ringo of the Boulder Daily Camera are reporting that it has hired Mike MacIntyre as its next head football coach.  MacIntyre would replace Jon Embree, who was fired after two dismal seasons in Boulder.

There has been no confirmation of the move yet by the school, although an official announcement on Colorado’s choice of coach could come as early as today.

MacIntyre, who has been connected to the CU job since Jones’ snub, comes to the Buffaloes from San Jose State, where he led the Spartans to a 10-win (and counting) season in 2012.  In MacIntyre’s first season at the school in 2010, the Spartans won just one game.

This would be a home run for Colorado. A guy who has turned a program around is exactly what they need. They were never going to get somebody like a Jim Tedford who’d built a program at the Pac 10/12 level, so somebody who’s done it on a smaller scale like MacIntyre is the next best thing.

Talk about being selfish and uncaring. SJSU gives MacIntyre a chance to be a head coach, leads them to a 10-2 record and bowl bound in years, then abruptly leaves before the bowl game. You couldn’t tell Colorado to at least wait until after the game? Another two weeks wasn’t going to affect their recruiting plans. Thanks for nothing MacIntyre. I wish nothing but the worst for you. And beware Colorado! MacIntyre has now proven he will bail on you for a better offer!
