APOne of the hottest names on the coaching carousel the past couple of years, Mario Cristobal was abruptly canned by FIU earlier this month.
Less than a week later, though, Cristobal is already drawing interest from schools in search of their next head coach.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Cristobal interviewed for the Temple vacancy Saturday night. The Owls are looking to replace Steve Addazio, who left last week to take the Boston College job.
Cristobal would’ve been at least the third coach interviewed by Temple Saturday, joining New York Giants assistant Matt Rhule and current Owls defensive coordinator Chuck Heater. Additionally, the Inquirer reports, Temple athletic director Bill Bradshaw interviewed Ohio State running backs coach Stan Drayton Sunday.
Miami (Fla.) defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio is expected to be at least one of the candidates interviewing with Bradshaw Monday. D’Onofrio, a former Temple coordinator, is reportedly being pushed for the job by former Owls and current Hurricanes head coach Al Golden.
Cristobal would be a solid hire here. He knows the area well from his time at Rutgers, and can bring in some solid FL recruiting.
Why did he get fired?
Why did he get fired?
His busted girlfriend of the last six years, who wouldn’t work out and who kept eating twinkies………caught him looking at a copy of maxim and went ballistic….like teenage girls tend to do (in this analogy they are both 15 or is it more of a 13 year old’s reaction)….the AD left a message saying that “they’re never, ever, ever….getting back together”
I am a UM fan and as a result, a big fan of Mario but he would be nuts to go to Temple. He should wait a while to find a better opportunity.
@donramis- he just got fired by FIU. What better job do you expect to come along? The last 2 Temple HCs cashed in and Cristobal could too. If I was the Temple AD I think he would be at the top of my list. The guy can absolutely coach.
Diaco should also be at the top of the list. The only thing there is it won’t take long for Temple to be in the same position they are today with Diaco. He’s destined for big things in my opinion.
what response from mhalt99 mean?
I think the best choicew would be a NFL asst coach
Temple has come along way over the last 5 years. Think it’s funny that Bowles, PHL Eagles interim DC interviewed for it also and he is a Temple Alum
