Suspended Sooners CB facing felony drug charges

Earlier this month, two Oklahoma players -- wide receiver Jalen Saunders and cornerback Cortez Johnson -- were arrested on marijuana related charges. Now, another Sooner is facing drug charges as well.

Per Jake Trotter of ESPN’s Sooner Nation, suspended OU cornerback Joe Powell is facing felony charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. According to a court affidavit, Norman police connected Powell to a FexEx package containing four pounds of marijuana on its way from California back in October.

Police confronted Powell about the drugs and Powell confessed to holding the package for another, unidentified person. However, he did admit to distributing “a little bit of money or marijuana” to a pair of females delivering the package. A preliminary conference hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 18.

Sooners coach Bob Stoops has only said that he is aware of the situation. Powell has been suspended from the team since October. Initially a receiver for OU, Powell switched to cornerback but suffered an injury during voluntary summer workouts.
