Pair of players leaving Terps

Just as the Maryland attrition spigot had slowed to a mere drip, someone went and opened it up yet again.

The Terps confirmed Monday that running back Justus Pickett and defensive back Makinton Dorleant have left the football program.

Pickett has left the university to attend to an undisclosed “family matter” in his home state of North Carolina, and his football future is unknown. Dorleant indicated on his Twitter feed that he will be transferring to Northern Iowa to continue his collegiate playing career.

The loss of Pickett, a sophomore, will be the most significant moving forward. As the only Terps back who made it through the 2012 season unscathed, Pickett played in all 12 games, finishing third on the team in rushing yards (142) and first in rushing touchdowns (three). He also had 19 receptions for 138 yards and another touchdowns.

Dorleant played in all 12 games as well, but mainly on special teams.
