Al Golden resists Wisconsin’s wooing

Despite being connected to openings like Arkansas and Auburn during the latest renewal of the coaching silly season, Al Golden has remained steadfast in his public stance that he is committed to Miami.

Apparently, and at least briefly, that commitment was tested.

About an hour ago, Pete Thamel of SI.com tweeted that “Golden, a favorite of Barry Alvarez, has emerged heavily” for the vacancy at Wisconsin, adding that the Hurricanes coach is “mulling a decision today.” A half-hour later, the momentum had evaporated.

ESPN.com‘s Joe Schad tweeted that "[d]espite Wisconsin’s interests source close to Al Golden reiterates today he does not plan to go there.” Minutes later, the Sun-Sentinel received a response from a current UM staffer that was all-caps emphatic: “NO SHOT HE GOES TO WISCONSIN ZERO NONE NOTTA ZILCH.”

Thamel himself then put the finishing touches on the story. “Golden is flattered by Alvarez’s interest but staying at Miami,” his tweet read.

In other words, Wisconsin’s search to find a replacement for Bret Bielema will trudge on.
