I think you question about the SEC being the best conference in the country, will be answered on Jan. 8th.
When UGA got untracked, Nebraska did not have an answer to stop them. UGA played the first half in the SECCG fog, but once they got into the game, Nebraska was pretty out matched.
S.C. had lost a key player at RB, but still managed to win the game. Michigan played a good game, but good teams win in close games.
LSU is in need of two things. A good QB and a good OC. Clemson beat them, because the LSU offense, had to rely on a QB, who doesn't play well in big games, and an offensive game plan, that backed them into a corner.
Mississippi, was just plain over rated. Bowl tie ins, dictate that some teams go to bowl games, they shouldn't be in, and Mississippi State is a case in point.
The sugar bowl will most likely be a Florida win, as will the cotton bowl and the NC game. That would make it 5-2, for the bowl games played this year, so it is to say a real stretch to say the SEC has lost much, or is not the best conference in the country.
Winning 6 straight national titles and vying for a seventh, would seem to me to point out, that the SEC is pretty strong, and I think the 7th one in a row will point out that fact pretty good.

Georgia needs to rally late to get by Nebraska.

Of course the corrupt SEC will never discipline an Alabama player for anything. Dial made a cheap shot period, a launching head-to-head tackle that the brain dead refs should have flagged instantly. Shame on Dial, shame on the refs but most of all shame on the SEC trash for not stepping up to the plate and proving it is committed to fair play.

I won't be watching the championship game between the two most despicable college football programs ever. That will be two years in a row that I skip this worthless BCS garbage.

It's a shame that John Taylor is so misinformed and has such a large forum to share his misinformation. Yes one could have called that a penalty for the helmet to helmet contact, but not all of these type of penalties are offenses that merit suspension. The difference is whether or not the receiver of the blow was "defenseless". Examples of "defenseless" would be a receiver focusing on catching a pass or a punt returner focusing on catching a punt. The quarterback Murray was not defenseless. He was at the point a defender and fair game as the recipient of a block. Failure to pay attention does not qualify as "defenseless" in the NCAA. Secondly, it is pretty clear to me that Dail was not targeting Murry. He clearly leads with his shoulder not his helmet. The helmet to helmet contact appears more inadvertent than intentional. Yes it was a vicious block as happens in football but to suspend Dail because of that would be an injustice to the player and the team.

Mr. Taylor needs to educate himself before he begins to question the integrity of the SEC Commissioner, Mike Slive and the SEC in general. He does a disservice not only to the SEC but also to his readers, who would like to assume that someone, given such a large national forum, might know what he is talking about.

I don't particularly care who wins the National Championship, or if the SEC continues its streak, or if the media is happy with calls, no calls, or decisions. I do think we all deserve a good game, with the best complete teams on the field. To me, it makes a lot of difference from previous penalties that it was a block on an interception runback. He was obviously looking to get in on a tackle, but being an inept defender, was not watching for potential blockers when he should have been. The block won't win any good citizenship awards, but not worthy of depriving all of us of a top quality Championship game.

man are notre lamer fans really delusional. I read somewhere on this topic early in the response section that someone, and I won't reveal the name so as not to give the idiot any credit or pub, How he couldn't wait to see manti knock out McCarron.

I nearly spit my coffee on my keyboard. Come on the mere thought of Mantty actually being able to hit someone hard enough to knock them out of a game.

A more likely outcome is Yeldon or lacy trucking Mantty much like the linebackers for Georiga were getting truck at the end of the SEC Title game. Come on Mannty couldn't truck a leggo football player let alone an actual RB from the best conference on the face of the planet.

gave me a good laugh none the less.

That's exactly my point. What Mathieu did was infinitely more dangerous than the Dial hit. Mathieu's hit knocked Kirkpatrick from the game with a concussion. No injury occured on the Dial hit--the player jumped up from the carpet immediately. Neither the SEC nor the NCAA handed down <em>any</em> punishment for the Mathieu hit--they left discipline to the team. But when the NCAA makes <em>exactly</em> the same ruling for Dial, LSU fans rant that Alabama-grad Shaw is showing favoritism to Alabama and giving Dial special treatment.

I'm tired of hearing Alabama is getting a pass when our players receive EXACTLY the same ruling other teams' players received in similar circumstances. I realize some people are going to whine about Alabama no matter what. But you don't trash Alabama and Shaw's reputation, and declare bias when there is absolutely no rational reason to do so. Enough already.

This is the only angle that I have seen. But I thought when it happened and still believe that in reality he hits him with his shoulder primarily. Dial's head is tilted towards him ,to be sure, but he is a broad guy and the hit is clearly delivered from a side angle. As for comparing to the other two hits, those were targeted helmet to helmet hits on a defenseless receiver. Something that is clearly and specifically defined as illegal. Dial could have easily been flagged for unnecessary roughness. But an honest appraisal of the video shows the real impact was a shoulder.

Whether the haters on here like it or not, the only reason this remains an issue is because Verne, Gary, and Tim cried buckets over the play for the rest of the second quarter, all throughout halftime, and periodically mentioned it in the second half. Plus, Tim continued to use his bully pulpit on his radio show to weep and wail about it.

Should it have been flagged? Probably. But the helmet-to-helmet was a glancing blow off the facemask, not a direct hit to the head, and Murray certainly did not show any ill effects afterwards. Even if it were flagged, considering the Tide got to around the Georgia 5-yardline and kicked a FG to end the half, it's certainly reasonable to assume 'Bama would have kicked the figgie from the 20 with all other things being equal. In other words, it didn't affect the outcome. Now stop blubbering about it and cooking up conspiracy theories just because it makes you feel good to think that 'Bama can only succeed in anything because the SEC allows them to.

Oh, and foreverlsu: Stop crying over the schedule. Alabama plays Tennessee EVERY YEAR; the league didn't just put them together next season because the Vols sucked. Were you whining likewise when you were "forced" to play Florida in 2010 and 2011 when they were just a .500 team? And where were you at two seasons ago when the SEC have six of the Tide's eight league opponents a bye week before playing 'Bama? Were you crying about the unfairness of the schedule then?

Seems there's a lot of Kleenex being passed around on this thread....

But remember ... the NCAA cracked down THIS YEAR on dirty hits. So it was A-OKAY that <em>just last season</em> neither the NCAA nor the SEC handed down ANY punishment to Tyrann Mathieu for a dirty hit that knocked Dre Kirkpatrick out of the game and sent him to the hospital with a concussion. THIS YEAR, the NCAA and SEC have made EXACTLY the same ruling on Quinton Dial--a player who does not have Mathieu's 2011 prior team disciplinary history of drug use and who did not knock a kid out of the game with a head injury. But since Shaw gave Bama the SAME ruling he gave LSU because he is a BAMA GRAD and the whole thing is biased and rigged.

If you think otherwise, clearly you are an insane Bama homer.

This is undoubtedly the biggest conspiracy of our time. All levels of government and society have come together to get to bottom of this senseless tragedy. Among the developments so far:
* The tape of the hit (already dubbed "The Zabrando Film") has been turned over to the FBI for analysis, included a believed second tackler on the artificial grassy knoll.

* Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has been tasked with creating a panel called The Roberts Commission to investigate charges of a conspiracy involving a Mob effort to manipulate the point spread.

* Oliver Stone has purchased the movie rights and is currently working on a screen play tentatively titled "SEC"; Kevin Costner will play the roll of Gary Danielson performing his analysis of Aaron Murray's head at the time of impact ("back and to the left...back and to the left....").

* Dan Brown is writing his own book named "The Saban Code" in which he alleges a coverup by the Alabama coach and the Vatican reaching all the way to the highest levels of the church: the Notre Dame University PR office.

* Congressional hearings (and potential impeachment proceedings) are set to investigate allegations that President Obama was also involved; as one anonymous informant has stated, "Obama is obsessed with the title of "World's Most Powerful Man"...and he wants to to meet the guy who has it for the third time in the last four years."

I don't know about you, but I think this has the potential to be bigger than the investigations of Lincoln, Kennedy, 9/11, and Barry Bonds combined.

Oh ... so I'm insane for thinking Shaw should let the coaches decide the punishment for the Bama player. But YOU are unbiased for thinking Shaw should let the coaches decide the punishment for the LSU player. Shaw didn't give Mathieu ANY suspension. And you know it.

Here's the link on a report for the week following that LSU game last year listing Dre as having a concussion.

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/11/tide_buzz_no_3_alabama_8-1_at.html

Many players have walked off the field and later been diagnosed with a concussion at the hospital. So as I said, <em>Mathieu knocked Kirkpatrick out of the game with a concussion</em> and received NO PUNISHMENT or from Shaw and the NCAA.

You're just not man enough to admit that Mathieu walked away with NO NCAA or SEC punishment for inflicting a more serious hit and own up that SHAW HAS TREATED DIAL EXACTLY AS HE TREATED MATHIEU. You'd rather call me an insane homer than admit you're wrong. I get it. How does the world look from behind those purple and gold glasses?

This Dial kid has been a good citizen for 4 years on and off the field. The hit was dirty but it happened in a split second.
Not a bama fan but a suspension was not going to happen. You also have to take into account the situation and a suspension for NC game is a lot more harsh than a regular season game.
Not hard to understand....
