Thanks to expired eligibility, Charlie Weis already knew that he would be losing three of the four starting members of his Kansas secondary in 2013.
Thanks to expired patience, apparently, Weis has now lost the lone remaining returning starter as well.
Junior cornerback Tyler Patmon tweeted Thursday that "[w]herever the Lord takes me for my last year of college ball I’ll be thankful no matter what.” Sources confirmed to the Lawrence Journal-World that Patmon is indeed leaving the football program and transferring elsewhere.
While no reason was given for the departure, Patmon tweeted “not by choice” when asked by a follower if his tweet meant he was leaving KU.
Patmon is scheduled to graduate in May and, if he meets that academic goal, he would be eligible to transfer to any FBS-level program and play immediately instead of sitting out a season as normally required by the NCAA.
While the school has not yet officially confirmed the departure, Weis did tell the Journal-World that "[w]e appreciate all that he’s done during his time at Kansas and we wish him well.”
Patmon started 28 games during his time with the Jayhawks, including all 12 in 2012. He tied for the team lead in interceptions with three and finished fourth in tackles with 58, while being credited with four tackles for loss and a sack.
