Doeren adds WR coach to his NCSU staff

A day after North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren announced his new offensive coordinator -- Matt Canada, formerly of Wisconsin -- another offensive coaching spot has been filled for the Wolfpack.

In a release Sunday, Doeren said that Northern Illinois wide receivers coach Fris Jackson would be joining the coaching staff in the same capacity.

“Fris Jackson played in the NFL and had a great career,” said Doeren. “He comes from the inner city of Chicago and understands how to relate to guys from that environment and help them mature through the process. He’s been very good helping our young men who had issues off the field to grow up and mature. I think he can also help our guys understand the reality of how hard it is and what it takes to be an NFL football player.”

Jackson caught 40 passes for 490 yards as a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns from 2002-'06. He came back to the college game as a coach for his alma mater, Western Illinois, from 2008-09, and Akron in 2010-11.

“My family and I are both excited and thankful to Coach Doeren for the opportunity to join the Wolfpack family,” said Jackson. “NC State is a very special place and I will work tirelessly to help continue building on its rich football tradition.”
