APTexas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel made history when he became the first freshman to ever win the Heisman Trophy. His postseason accolades since have included first-team selections in the AP and FWAA All-American teams.
Now, he’s been named the AP Player of the Year, collecting 31 votes to become the first freshman to ever receive the honor. Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o finished second with 15 votes.
It’s been a good few weeks to be Manziel. Bring home a Heisman… get selected to a few All-American teams… make the late night talk show rounds…

Congrats to Johnny, but he’s not a “freshman”. He’s either a red-shirt freshman or a sophomore, especially because he enrolled early in January, 2011. If this was his very first year, he would be a “true freshman”. Please stop peddling the misleading “freshman” moniker.

Teo didn’t have to live up to any hype for three years. Probably why he played so well his senior year.
Megan fox is not looking like her last name anymore…looks like jennifer has no body…hes a redshirt freshmen so on the football field he is a freshmen get over it…and teo was the most highly recruited defensive player coming out of high school so there was a ton of pressure on him along with all the hype to go with it and he has delivered ten fold…and for those who are sick of sec haters, we are all sick of notre dame haters but it comes with being the best…on january 7th the irish will rise again….GO IRISH!!!!

Last I looked, the Heisman is not a lifetime achievement award, it’s not a humanitarian award, its not a leadership award, its not a most valuable player award.
Its the awards for the most oustanding college football player of the year. OF THE YEAR…. In 2012, Johnny Manziel was quite obviously the most outstanding player as evidenced by 2 All America teams, the AP Player of the Year, SEC Player of the Year, and of course, the Heisman Trophy.

I remind you of a clemson fan 4 yrs ago because clemsons been relevant and in the national title hunt…i was saying that people hate the sec because there the best and people hate notre dame even though they havent been the best in recent years they are #1 this year…people hate what they are not and what they will never become…i root for my team and i am a fan and a student of football..i dont bash the sec because well whats to bash, the top flight teams in that conference are just that top flight but yes there are bottom feeders just like every other conference…i agree with brian when he says he is trying to build a sec team by way of a great defense and a stout running game but for those of you who doubt the irish then maybe you havent watched them play…dont just look at final score but at the maturation of golson at the qb position because this kid can flat play…GO IRISH!!!

Thank-you for your civil response and post. QB Golson is maturing well and the NC game will be a huge stage for him to perform. Of course playing at ND Stadium is also a pressure-packed environment because the expectations are very high. Building a solid team starting with defense and running game is certainly a recipe for success. In the NC game, I think the team that controls time of possession will ultimately win. On balance I think ‘Bama’s more difficult schedule of playing SEC teams will prevail. Also, ‘Bama has been on this stage more often in the past 5 years than ND has. I think ND will play well but will lose a close game. Good luck in the game. I hope you find this post as respectful to you as yours was to me.

Bama has definatly been on this stage a hell of a lot more then the irish…everyone talks about how their schedule was week but before the season it was the toughest and i didnt look this up but i believe 10 to 11 teams are bowl eligible and they get everyones best shot week in and week out…there are keys to this game just like any other and if the irish do what they do and do it well i believe they can win…being born in 86 this is by far the most athletic team that i have seen from the irish that i can remember anyway in my lifetime…looking forward to a great game and always and forever GO IRISH!!

Look up the ND team of 1966. They shared the then mythical NC with Michigan St. That season, both teams went unbeaten but for one tie: a 10-10 game between the two teams. I think Nick Eddy was the star RB for the Domers. It was an epic game and one that ND supporters will always remember. I also think they destroyed USC that year in Los Angeles, 51-0. John Huart may have been the QB and Jack Snow the All-America wide-out. Again, best of luck in the NC game. Roll Tide.

Thank-you for your civil response and post. Blah, blah, blah….I particularly enjoy the Long Horn Network and I intend to subcribe to it if and when it is offered on Direct TV. I think DeLoss Dodds is a genius, Mack Brown an excellent football coach, and the City of Austin one of the nicest places I’ve never visited. I have heard wonderful things about it though. Great restaurants and music, and most of all, people like you!
