I don’t blame Boise State for leaving the Big East. It’s a dead conference. My question is where are they going to go? Will the stay in the MWC? I think they should form a new conference and call it the Big West. It’s got to be a better conference than the Big East and the MWC.

It IS a terrible conference and I don’t consider NIU or Toledo as top tier teams by any stretch of the imagination! But then the Big East is on the level of the MWC, MAC and the WAC which are all pathetic conferences that no one gives a flip about other than the weak schools in the conferences.

Nothing like it was before, but if all the teams remain intact, it’s not terrible. Add a couple of the top tier MAC teams – NIU & Toledo – and that will make it even better. But it can only work as a football conference. No way all those teams will travel cross country for Olympic sports.

Its going to get sold to the Catholic 7 as part of the severance package.

And thats fine – the Big East brand is now toxic in football circles. It still holds clout in basketball circles. Makes sense to just have the basketball schools keep it.

They’ll come up with a new brand name for the football schools that form the conference. I’m sure it’ll take into account the coast to coast presence.

This new conference will be the #6 conference in football. Perception wise, they’ll be behind the Big 5, but in reality, they probably won’t really be that far behind the ACC. Its champion will quite often be the team that gets the Access Bowl slot every year.

For years, we’ve wanted the best non-BCS teams to at least play each other to figure out who the best one is. Now we are going to have that essentially, and people bitch about it. I don’t get that.

I mean only a fool like me would think, the big east is east, why would you want teams from the west with the travel costs, logistics etc.
Apparently the UNLV and Fresno state teams they are looking at must be in Virginia, or the Carolina’s.

With no guaranteed tie in to the big boy bowls starting in 2 years, they will effectively be a mid-major in football too. Their TV deal is going to be a lot worse than they hoped. Frankly, I think BSU and SDSU should go back to the Mountain West and that the Big East is now in no way superior to the Mountain West.
